Is Armo Cooked?

The problem with back injuries for athletes is that, put simply, you are always 'using it' so you cannot rest it in the same way you rest a knee, shoulder, etc. For example, a knee can be fully immobilised or have a non-weight bearing status.
Sitting? Using your back.
Standing? Using your back.
Lying? Shouldn't be using your back, but disuse is as bad as overuse, so pure rest would create more problems than it solves.

Careful and appropriate management should relieve symptoms, but unfortunately once a flare occurs (which is likely due to his role as an inside midfielder) it can take quite some time to alleviate. This isn't to say that it's curtains, but I would like to think that, if his condition was manageable to the degree that he can play football unhindered, then it would have happened by now.

Loyal servant of the club he may be but sentiment should have no part in the decision making process of who plays and who gets left out.

Armitage seems to really divide opinion amongst st kilda fans. At his best he has been a very good player but for so long he was just a player imho.

It is a big ask given his recent problems to expect him to come back and hit top form again. If he can get back this year and show some form well that would be great for him and the club.

Personally I doubt he will but good luck to him.

Doesn't sound good

I had a hot spot in my foot at some point from doing a lot of physical activity. Annoying stuff. It's gone away now primarily because I reduced my physical activity... but at some point, I was getting dry needles, etc.

Was very thankful we didn't do Armo for pick 12 after 2015 but right now you would have taken it.

What did Richmond get for it? Was it Corey Ellis?

So, Corey Ellis for Armitage and McKenzie doesn't sound like a great deal, even if Armitage doesn't play another game.

They got Rioli.

We could have got Gresham AND Laverde with the one pick right?

Seriously it probably would have got all mixed up in the Jake Carlisle deal , which was more about what we had than what Carlisle was worth and i'd suspect the Sydney deal, born of desperation would not have happened if we had an extra pick to play with.

If we believe what we've been told and we had an extra pick.
We'd still have Gresham and White and Rice and maybe had the 3rd round pick to play with.
Potentially we could have got Tom Phillips or little Mitch Brown , but just as likely some spud.

So no we probably would not be significantly better off, especially if we are talking finals in the near future.

Just as an FYI, I have a back that was likened to a 70 year old, about 13 years ago. The fact that Armo is still in the AFL system means he's either a complete and total moron or has superhuman pain tolerances no man in history ever had before, or does not actually have a 70 year old back.

Or each case is different

If Armo retires due to injury his is contract honoured?

Would we get a list spot open?

Just interested not saying that it will happen.

Its up to the club but I would imagine they would make him a rookie and just pay him out but if we had money in the SC which it seems we have we would just pay the rest of it at the end of this season.

He's still a gun of a guy and a huge part of the club. He was by himself on a table outside the ground signing posters for fans on Saturday and always stops for a chat with people. He's one of the guys that make clubs good places to be around and is as passionate about his club as any one at the Saints. I hope he gets back and proves people wrong, he's young enough to still work his way back.

People complain when players leave for money or opportunity but Armo patiently bided his time until he made the best 22 team under Watters. He had one year when he was injury free where he was one of the best mids in the comp and lead the home and away season for possessions for most of 2015. I would love him to get his battered body up for a finals tilt and wear a medal, he deserves it nearly as much of some of the other senior citizens.

I reckon he's got another 3 years left in him. If he can recover from this injury and slowly pick up form. Have a blazing pre season and get back to his 2015 form.

I think he can do it. He is crucial to us when we play finals. His 2015 is good as how Ross is playing right now.

I don't remember a pick going back to Richmond ever being reported in the proposed deal. And the offer was made at the end of the 2014 season; remember at the time Armo had just started to establish himself as a genuine gun despite some injury troubles - there's no way anyone would have entertained the idea of trading him for a 9-pick upgrade from 21 to 12. I believe the offer was a straight swap of Armitage for 12 which was a reasonable offer to make, but given out lack of midfield talent it didn't seem like something we should do at the time. In hindsight having another first round draft pick would have been very handy. We very likely would have picked up Lachie Weller or Jake Lever with that pick.

I am definitely not bagging the club saying that we should have taken the trade. If we had have done that and then Armo had a similar 2015 season for Richmond we would have been a laughing stock and we would have been a much worse team for that period. I think it was the right call to keep him then, but with the benefit of hindsight, a full career from Weller or Lever would bring us more value than one elite season from Armo and a few injury riddled years after that.

Pretty sure his back is not actually 70 years old unless that creep who put the metal stuff in Wolverine got him and did weird bone transplants to him or something.
GIVE ARMO HIS BACK BACK YOU CREEP!

So it was 2014.
Its hard to do the draft sliding doors thing.
If we'd had an earlier pick we might have picked someone like Laverde or Langford and then Essendon might have picked Goddard and Ellis might have slid. ( should have slid some would say ).

I think... if we make finals this year, and Armitage gets his groin sorted ( and his back is apparently OK now ), I'd rather have Armitage in our side than any of those.
