Is Egan Gone?

The point is that everyone keeps saying he has no trade value so we shuold keep him - if he has no trade value - get rid of him! HE may have potential - but so did Richard Cole!!!! We have too many good youngsters to waist our tim eon someone with his attitude! Watched him at Williamstown the week after he was dropped for displine - looked uninterested, didnt listen to the coach's at 3/4 time - thought he knew it all - no room for that in a team!

Don't know if there is a spot for him in our side. Has talent but could be another Jeff Haywood. If all else fails we can trade him to Essendon just like Cole.

If push comes to shove, and we HAVE to trade him, I think Richard Cole would be a good precedent to look at in terms of what we could get back, although he had played a fair bit more footy for us when he was traded.

WTF - A Fremantle supporter coming on bagging the Pies for dud picks - now that is a joke and tell me what our president has to do with our draft picks??? I'd love to know what you know!!!!

Dont know how well you know Judkins(yeah I know he's not your RM)but if you ever get the chance ask him who insisted that they pick Egan.

No dont know Judkins at all, but if I ever meet him I will ask! BUt Eddie insists on a lot things I am sure - we all make mistakes!

Now tlaking of mistakes - maybe you should go talk to your recruiting staff about names like Jeff White, Matthew Lloyd, etc etc etc etc - Should I go on?

Seeing you're on the Collingwood board start with James Clement and Brodie Holland.;)

He insisted in such a way that the recruiting staff were left in no doubt, straight from the mouth of someone who was at the meeting.

Blame for most of those early stuff ups at Freo particularly for White not staying can be directly attributable to NEESHAM.

Clement never wanted to go to Fremantle in the first place you might be interested to know that I and a member of your recruiting staff (no longer) met with James with a view to him going to Collingwood but he told us he was already committed to Freo as a zone selection. Mick always had James in his sights even when he was at West Coast and in fact tried to get him there. Holland was undisciplined at Fremantle (and still is at times) due mainly the soft culture under Neesham and believe it or not he was drafted at the insistence of Neesham who saw him as another Robert Harvey. True story, I was there.

The last AFL game he played, he was good in early before tiring. If he can get fit and build his tank, his raw ability and love for the big stage will see him become a walk up selection over the next couple of years.

I'd rather it be with us!

Just a thought...but if we have to let someone go, I'd rather it be Iles (who will never be in the best 22 of a premiership team, but might be servicable), rather than Egan (who is oft-injured, looks lazy, but nonetheless is good enough to play AFL). Obviously Ben Davies has to go before either of those two though.

Egan will go before Iles - let me tell you that 100% - mark my word - Egan will not be at the club longer then Iles! Listened to MM today on SEN - he loves Iles! Sammy is going no where!

Egan is another Cole - useless!!!! Another wasted top 10 pick by the Pies unfortunatly!

I don't think I've ever heard of Malthouse not "liking" a player, obviously he couldn't say as much. Now, Egan may very well go before Iles; for mine that would be a mistake. Iles seems to me to be in the Lokan, J.Cloke type mould - players who help with depth but eventually have to make way.

If we're gonna cut him eventually (and I think we will), might as well do it earlier than later.

He's obviously got the ability but it is his mindset that lets him down, I think he hasn't realized his full potential as yet, so that could be why he doesn't do the extras on and off the field. As soon as he returns, Brad Gotch should step in and say, "I will take him off your hands for the meantime, Mick." He needs to perform on a consistent level at Williamstown, because he hasn't ticked any boxes down there, and then we will assess where he is at mid-season next year.

I just cant see a spot on our list for him next year! No matter how much potential, how high a draft pick he was, how much of an X Factor he has, how injured he is and how much he deserves another go!!!

He just doesnt fit into our structure - we have a good group of young kids who play for each other as a team - everything that Egan is not - he just has to go!

That's funny considering I'm pretty sure Derek Hine was the head recruiter at the time of that draft.

And to all the pies supporters underrating Egan, it's very easy to forget about players and forget their talent/worth to the team when they are injured. I'm suprised we don't want to trade Rusling off yet, he's done less than Egan. Last year was pretty good from Egan. Was inconsistant but had some very good games, especially at the late stage. He has struggled this year, but it's only his 3rd year. We gave Cole 4 years and IMO Egan has shown a lot more than Cole.

The team isn't going to stay the same in terms of personell and the level of performence, it's going to change a hell of a lot. There will be injuries. Some kids may not come on like we would've wanted, there will be form slumps. This years Chris Egan may be next years Tarkyn Lockyer. O'Bree, Burns, Licuria, etc. may all be injured/gone next year, which means Thomas and Pendles are going to be in the midfield most of the time in that case meaning there would be a slot for a player like Egan.

It's not a matter of picking kids, finding out they're not quite right, throwing them out and getting another kid every 2-3 years until we find a superstar.

Listen I like Toovey, and I know he is a rookie pick, but in determining their worth to the side it is irrelevant where we pick them. But as much as Egan may be a bit flakey and soft, Toovey and Davies is just plain not up to it, but the likes of Egan and Lonie will always cop the full brunt of criticism while battlers who try their guts out but aren't up to it escape criticism.

He definately must stay he has the potential to be a very good player in our team. Does everyone forget how he performed for the 2nd half of last year in only his second season of afl??? for the last 10 games he was averaging something like 17 possessions a game and kicking goals. He is quick, agile and has that x factor. Imagine in two years time a mature pendlebury, thomas, egan and clarke running through the midfield. We must at least give him one more season where he has a chance to show us what he can do.

lets not get to carried away there chief, he averaged 13 touches last year and has averaged 12 touches a game for his career. As for kicking goals he kicked 21 goals in 25 games. I get the impression that he has no true position he is too small and no where near strong enuff for key position and too lumbering for a true foward pocket or flanker. His best bet might be on the wing as a slower moving des headland type but I wouldnt hold my breath.

This year Xavier Ellis is averaging something like 9 possesions a game while at the same stage of his career (2nd year - 2006) Egan was averaging 13 like you said. I'm not saying Ellis is in trouble, but why can't we give Egan the same amount of time?

its ellis' 1st year of afl footy. He played school footy for half a year last year. Ellis looks interested, has a definite position and isnt half hearted in his attack on the footy. Stupid comparing these two. You would be better of comparing ellis with pendlebury who he is trailling by a margin or egan with Birchall who is now in his 2nd year or lewis who was taken with collingwoods original pick (bo nixon deal) in the egan draft.

Egan may be traded, as I don't think he has the mindset the Club should be aiming for, and possibly were aiming for when they traded Tarrant. We need to get any semblance of that arrogant, apathetic, self-entitled crap out of our club, and Egan needs to decide whether he wants to play for Collingwood or with Adam Iacobucci, Julian Rowe and co.

Delisting him however, is not an option.

Can't see Stanley going now. Bucks will probably retire, Wakes definitely will, Davies will be delisted, Cook may well be, Richards may well be, Iles may well be.

Hate to see Cook go. Wasted talent.

Everyone knows my thought about Stanley and Iles though:thumbsd::mad:

It's hard to get a measure on the players that haven't seen senior action yet, for sure.

... which makes me wonder why you're so keen on Cook when he hasn't made his debut yet?
