He's been absolute garbage for two years now. Just a glorified stat padder. As a passionate Essendon fan I hope he plays on next year so we can run rings around him like we did earlier in the year!!

I actually think it’s the opposite and he only gets criticised because of his name. If he was just a standard player he wouldn’t get nearly the criticism he does now. It’s ridiculous that someone with his stats gets called into question but well this is bigfooty I suppose

Either HFF or HBF next year, not midfield. He can still play but he is fading and his defensive effort sets a very bad example to our young players. Dangerfield back to the midfield full time.

At one stage of the game against Melbourne we had Danger, Ablett and Kelly playing as the deep forwards while Melbourne were roasting us in the midfield.

As others have said, skills are still sublime but was badly exposed for both pace and strength towards the back half of the season.

Still a very handy player but probably a year or 2 left at most.

I think he's still got some pace. The problem is he has lost his acceleration out of packs so gets caught more often.

This year he's in the best shape he's been in since before his shoulder injury.

I've pointed out the fact that he doesn't wear any shoulder tape anymore, last 4 years he would play every game with his left shoulder heavily taped and he'd struggle to move his arms above his head.

Credit has to go to Geelong's medical staff for getting Ablett into such good shape, he may be 35 years old but he looks like he could play for another 3-4 years.

Looking back last year it was weird they brought him in and had him in the middle so much. I guess they sort of loved having Danger up forward a lot.

He may have found the ball a lot last year but at his age was he running as hard both ways as a younger player? He also doesn’t tackle as hard ever since that shoulder injury.

In that half forward role he’s now playing, he’s perfectly suited. He’s still quick, obviously got great marking and kicking skills and he’s easily got some of the best goal sense in the league. He’s still pushing up the ground too which means he’s getting involved regardless.
