I don't think that Jericho is hated by the group as a person but is frustrating the group with his lack of endeavour and contribution to the team.

I am aware that the team had a 'home truths' meeting recently and all the players got to say what they had on their minds and a few of the boys were critical of Luke's work ethic. WHile he is great with the ball it is his lack of 'off-the-ball' work that is annoying teammates and crows fans alike, especially in these tougher times. Hopefully hearing this straight up form his peers will spark a change otherwise just like the rest of you I agree that this year will be his last as a crow.

Also, it's a little unfair to compare him to medhurst who is about 10kg lighter and 10cm smaller. Only thing in common b/w them is work ethic. Medhurst was once lazy but has turned it around, can luke do the same?

OK, people make way too big a deal of his 'talent'. Sure he's got some, but people give his talent way too much credit. If he was so talented he would dominate in the SANFL and he certainly doesn't do that.

Totally agree! People always go on about how much talent he has but how do they come to this conclusion? When is it on display? It's just a myth, otherwise like you said, he would dominate games in the SANFL where he would look a class above. Instead, he just looks like another SANFL player.

I don't think Jericho is lazy, I just think he just lacks the aggressive instinct of an AFL footballer. Sometimes when he plays I melt in my seat because of the damage he can inflict with his pace and kick. However, he constantly looks overwhelmed, his defensive work is non-existent and not only does he never win a contested ball, but he rarely makes gets in the right spot to receive an outside pass.

So in 2 or 3 months time when Luke is delisted, who is going to become this boards new whipping boy?

Taking into account who will probably be delisted

Nick Gill $2.20
Kris Massie $3.50
Bryce Campbell $5.50

I will give you $1.45 on James Sellar and $1.80 on Jarrhan Jackie. Odds on in my book.

$5.50 on Campbell – make some dosh on that bet.

Freo don't need Jericho...Freo should just build on their draft picks and from their high picks this year.

I know we don't need him, that's why I said the coaches aren't looking at any older players, it's just that if Jericho was ever given an extended run I think he would play well. So I was just saying that I think there will be teams who look at drafting him.

And I would love to get some money on Campbell at $5.50. If he somehow survives the delistings, you could make a bundle at those odds.

At least those lads put in...

Melting in your seat with Jericho's kicking? Geez some people overrate him, omg look at that long kick that was awsums. He only gets a few kicks a game yet you act like he's the greatest kick in football history.

I know I've already said I think he'll be delisted.... but...(and I know this will NOT be popular :o) we are desperate for goal kicking forwards. Could we not play him for the last 5 games straight... no ands ifs or buts? Surely then we can delist him and not be left wondering what if? I've always thought his handling has been poor... dropped after playing good games, picked when not warranted. It's confusing as hell for the supporters, can't imagine what it would be like for the player. I just think if he was given 5 games (for arguments sake) straight, he might settle into a groove. Or he might crash and burn as most here expect. But we DO need experienced players that can kick goals (rather than robbing Peter to pay Paul) and we can ultimately answer the question as to whether he can make it at this level if given a decent chance. I honestly don't believe he's been given a decent enough chance at this level. In one week, out the next regardless of form. Just a thought.

Would also like to say when asked about his endeavour on the field (ie. the question was "do you think Jezza is any good?") the response from a senior player was "his footy instinct is brilliant and is best when he doesn't think about things too much".

I'd say they will escape the wrath (1) they are too young and (2) they will both have vastly superior years

Not so much a reflection on how I rate the players, but moreso who I expect the supporters & critics to hound. Gill - lord save any forward who's conversion rate is anything less than 10:1, Massie - Scott Stevens syndrome & Campbell - Young Mick syndrome.

On his kicking, I agree with Freddy's comment, on his own, on the run, brilliant long kick, most of the time. But that doesn't make him much more than a poor man's Lonie. Flashes on brilliance, but not one pathetic single game of brilliance.

Hehe…yeah, his AFL conversion rate of just under 48% is deplorable. As depressing as his kicking is, it’s his consistency that hurts the most. He’d be my first choice lead up CHF if we could trust him to show up every week…even Perrie was more reliable and he had a better kick. Would be very surprised if we persisted with him next year.

he signed his own death warrant in the last showdown by putting in what had to be the most insipid performance ever from a bloke in a crows jumper.

delist!

Can we please put to rest the whole "dropped after good games" stuff that people keep on dragging out? He doesn't get dropped on good form, he gets dropped because every single game he plays he fails dismally in key areas that the Crows have asked him to improve in.

Yes he has managed to kick goals in those games. But his lack of defensive pressure has probably cost us around as many. He has played one "good" half in the last two years.

I would rather see a "youngster" such as Bryce Campbell (who is at least young in terms of AFL experience) be given a chance in our forward line than someone who has proven over many years that he cannot do what the club want him to do. For better or worse, the AFC want him to be a player he simply is not going to be.

Jenny Jericho; he has had plenty of chances... but his time is now up. Delist, trade, ask Madonna to adopt him. Anything to get him out of the club. I even cut him some slack earlier this year but I've had enough now.

Kenny Mac has a second year on his contract. He'll still be around, and still be blamed for everything.

I think Jericho (if he does finish up this year) is going into the Adelaide board whipping boy hall of fame. He's up there with David Gallagher and Matthew Smith, a notch ahead of Perrie.

i agree; that game pretty much confirmed everything for me. if he didn't have that hamstring strain, i would've expected him to be dropped anyway, especially seeing Gill was pushing hard for selection. unless, Jericho got the hamstring strain during the match and thus it affected his game leading to such a poor performance???

anyway, i don't think Jericho will be given anymore chances this year.

...and Campbell did show improvements in the Sydney game; his number might not be up yet.

..and of course, KMac will be the new whipping boy next season, though obviously not to the same extent.

I'm actually pretty confident he will be delisted. If he isn't going to play any games for the club anyway, we might as well make space on the list. I'd doubt we aren't under a lot of salary cap strain.

with the expected huge amount of experience coming off our list at the end of the year, also comes a huge amount of salary cap room and therefore we should easily be able to pay out mcgregors contract for next year.

I wouldn't be so sure Kenny's going.

For starters, he's a 10 year, 150 game player. His salary won't be minimum wage. It won't be as easy to cover as, say, Obst's was a few years ago.

For seconds, although we might lose a high paid veteran or two, we've got a few due for pay rises too. Knights, Porps, Bock and Rutten all re-signed earlier this year for starters, and all will be (one would imagine) pocketing more in 2009 than in 2008. The spare salary we might have from a retirement elsewhere might get eaten up.
