Has long been considered in the best 2 or 3 in the league. Used to play in a star studded team that was not reliant on him.
Never made AA side and is now struggling to make any impact.
No doubt an awesome player, but is he in the best few?

Very.
All we hear is how he is the next Carey and how he can rip games apart.
Well that one game a year he tears apart doesn't make him a star, just a good player.

I'm beginning to wonder if he'll even live upto his potential.

Definitely.

Not that he isn't any good, but to enter him in the discussion between he and Judd of who the best player in the league is, and therefore to put him comfortably ahead of players like Matthew Pavlich, Barry Hall and a few others is a bit presumptuous.

Obviously he's one of the better key forwards in the league, but for anyone to suggest they'd take him over Chris Judd...

Yes.

Excellent player, but probably wouldn't be in the top 5 forwards in the league right now, or the top 20 players...

4 years ago Mike Sheman was writing articles saying Richo was the most valuable player to any team. This was while he had missed about 50% of the last 3 years to injury.

I believe that when great players are injured for so long the hype and anticipation to see them play again leaves you overrating them.

Nathan G. Brown was described as one of the top 10 players in the comp by Sheman in the pre season, but I feel that while easily top 25, because of the amount of games he's missed he, like Jonathon Brown, gets rated a little higher than blokes like Pavlich who are always "there" and always great. The perception is that the injured stars would be doing more, if Pavlich did a knee this year then broke his arm and missed half of next year he would be talked up as the top 3 players in the comp.

I would honestly take Richo over Jon Brown at the same age, he's still a great player just nowhere near as great as he got hyped up while injured.

I think he's overrated in the sense that people say he's the 2nd best player in the competition. I'd say he'd be 5th-10. There's many other key forwards who have put together 2-3 consistant seasons better than any of his - Riewoldt, Hall, Fevola, Lloyd.

This is the one season where he's played every game but hasn't done much. How bout kick 50+ goals in a season and then revisit this.

Let me put it this way. Add up the talent of the entire Pies list. Multiply it by 10, then multiply by 100, then multiply by 1000 and you still wouldn't have half the talent J Brown has. :)

Yes.

I've said this for years.

His output doesn't match his reputation, it is as simple as that. But because he's "Carey-like" and had a fantastic half year in 2006, he was rated equal with Judd and the best forward in the competition. But the thing is, he doesn't have the runs on the board - and unlike all the other power forwards in the competition, hasn't dominated a year. Hell, some were suggesting prior to 2006 he was better than Tredrea, when during that time he was by far and away the most dominant forward and CHF in the league four years running.

It is all "what if" or "what he may do providing he's injury free". Don't get me wrong, he's a great player but he's not the best. Potnetially he may be, and that's what most of the hype is based on. He's played all games this year, and we still do not see this Coleman challenge and AA spot a lot of people were saying he most certainly would.

IIRC he played the majority of games through 2001 - 2004, certainly enough to stamp some authority and dominate a season rather than a few games here and there. When he was not injured, he was inconsistent (apart from his 2006 year) - flashes of brilliance, "Carey-like" plays, and some great contested marks. Then he'd go quiet, and go missing.

he has been gettin double/triple teamed for almost every match this season.

Piss poor excuse. So does every other good forward.

If anyone says J. Brown individually has had a better career than:

Lucas
Pavlich
Lloyd
Hall
Riewoldt
Richardson
Tredrea
Fevola
Johnson
Gehrig

Then they are stupid, and they should not be taken seriously when discussing football issues. At the moment, he's playing better and is better than a few of those players mentioned above. But to claim he is the best forward in the game and alongside Judd and the best player i.nthe league, despite his actual on-field output? Then it is the height of stupidity and once more suggests that he is the most overrated player in the competition.

And before you yell at me, overrated /= crap. He's great to watch when he dominates, I like him as a player and if you don't beleive I rate him at all, then I will provide you some links. Great player, but seriously overrated and not as good as some claim he is. Certainly not the best either.

Lol the same Pies that beat Carlton this year and will be playing finals whilst the Blues will be deciding who to take with their top 5 draft pick.

Poor old Parrot, you must be still hurting after the Eagles with our talentless forward line won last year.

Oh well.

At least we won't finish bottom.

Thanks a lot for ruining my tipping this week!

Well now i didn't say that

Didn't say that you did!

but after the last two weeks i have included 12th as a possible finishing spot for the Blues.

I'm hoping so.

I would've been happy with a 12th spot finish at the start of the year. But I'll be spewing if we just miss out on the finals, considering we've had four close and winniable games that we couldn't hang on to.

You poor sad little girl.
Why do you only resurface when you win or before your priority picks?? :)

very average player IMO. no particular part of his game stands out, and he doesnt have the same sharpness guys like pavlich and riewoldt have

Good player, but not as 'great' as he is made out to be.

He is almost due for a "mark running back with the flight of the ball" just to get all those media scribes excited.

Can't believe people would vote yes.

He's up against 2 or 3 opponents every contest.
SO are most quality forwards, but then again you barrack for Adelaide and wouldn't now what a quality forward is:thumbsu:

Brown is a good player, but one of the most over rated players for quite some time

Don't forget about west coast Lynch makes brown look like the greatest player ever to play afl. He would be about the 4th or 5th best CHF

did any one see that mark last week?

he is a freak.

Deledio did that exact mark yesterday but dropped it on the third touch. Brown isn't a superhero or anything, he just knows his body is so much bigger than the pack he's running into. Still a very courageous mark.

Deledio's effort was even more courageous, he just turned 20, he's a midfielder kid and he's doing what a fully matured big bodied strong KPP did. :thumbsu:
