In any event I'm still firmly of the belief that AFL players should not be tested for Illicit drugs, that is a Police issue. they should be tested for performance enhancing drugs and then only under an AFL policy, not ASADA WADA, the whole corrupt IOC sham should have nothing to do with any Australian sport.

The players are doing it now with rules in place so can you imagine what they would do without rules.
IMO Laurence Angwin would become the norm and not the exception to the rule.

It really doesn't matter who he's talking about. These issues are AFL Wide, I didn't even suspect for a moment Collingwood have any more of a problem than any other club. I'm pretty confident we don't have a big a problem as five years ago, but back than we played in grand finals and flags. Just sayin'.

FWIW, I reckon the current playing group is pretty well grounded IMO.

We have had two players ousted for PED'S after admitting they likely took dodgy coke, we had a raft of players exploit the self reporting loophole and our own CEO has twice described illicit drug use as volcanic. Where do you think he gets the evidence from to make such claims?

Deadset we have a former captain telling us it's rife and still some want to rationalise it as him potentially not referring to players within our club. It's laughable.

FWIW I'm with Finnishpie in that testing shouldn't be undertaken. The only issue then would be identifying the real problem users that could potentially impact on the younger players.

Yeah, agree - I'd be surprised if they weren't referring to our club. Thing is, it's probably rife among all clubs. Young men with lots of money - you have to expect it. I mean, you do coke and you're probably better off physically than drinking alcohol, and it keeps your weight down. Part of the problem is that some of them who are getting caught are probably just using once in a while, while others who have problems might not get caught at all (remember Ben Cousins was never actually busted was he?) So there's no fairness to the system at the moment anyway. Obviously if it's a problem for the players themselves (like for Cousins), then you want to identify that, but all the talk of "no tolerance" won't work. Imagine if they tried to implement it and a quarter of each club's list (about the average in young people of that age) were expelled in the first year!

I posted because I support ONLY Collingwood and it is a problem at our Club.........our CEO said that and the best ever Collingwood Captain (IMO)

Then said player returns and is expected to be applauded for his bravery in bringing awareness to "mental health issues"- putting him in the same category as ex and current players like Wayne Schwass and Nathan Thompson who completely laid themselves bare with their battles with depression - despite an obviously sanctioned taboo on anybody talking about what the mental health issue is.

That's a completely different point to asking CFC2010 to re-read the article to better comprehend the bolded section and insinuate that Maxwell was not referring to Collingwood.

The irony is that if you re-read my post you'll notice that I agree that drug testing shouldn't be undertaken by the AFL. Considering your issue taking in my post in I might leave things here!

Agree. Everyone trys to cover up the Drug Use.

It escapes me who it was, but someone on SEN, said earlier that around 50% of the tested players have been found to have taken drugs.

Also went to to mention something about reports no longer being published - I gathered that this was done so the high % goes unreported into he mainstream. I didn't hear all of the segment as I was working while trying to listen. Someone else might be able to clarify/confirm what I was saying....

If players want to run the drug gauntlet, well that's the risk they take. But if you get caught, take some responsibility and wear it. Hell, you could even become an anti drugs ambassador. Maybe educate others of the pitfalls of illicit drug use and do something positive other than your drug test.

I understand this is fanciful thinking as there are so many other parties with vested interests in player's activities. I guess the question is as supporters, what would you rather? Player x with mystery illness out for undetermined amount of time and speculation ensues? Or Player, Club and AFL going public and admitting that Player X was caught using drugs and will be spending a determinant amount of time on the sidelines as a result?

Our CEO has spoken of the drug issues on a number of occasions. Which club do you reckon he has knowledge of? Anyone who doesn't think we have a serious problem is kidding themselves.

My hope is that it doesn't cost us any more suspensions.

I don't agree it is a problem at our club, I don't even agree that it is a problem for the two players who took some recreational drugs in the off season.
The real problem is that out game has been co-opted into a pseudo police force enforcing the ill conceived policies of uneducated politicians which have been proven without a scintilla of doubt to be totally inadequate, a failure and extremely expensive fraud.
