As much as i love the run and handball out of trouble, go through the guts when open, it appears we are too one dimensional, and have no plan B.
The MCG is perfect for this as there is a lot more space, but smaller grounds like the Dome, and tonight at the GABBA where we dont have room, our skill errors kill us cos the rebound comes back and the other team out numbers us. How are we gonna hold up the Hawks?

We got it forward plenty of times tonight.

We have no one forward of the centre that can do real damage any more.

Our game plan is working ok except our half forwards can't lead and take marks and we have no one to take a pack mark and put scoreboard pressure.

We lacked accountability again in defensive transition, the amount of times we let brisbane midfielders drift forward into space unattended is not good enough.

I happen to know a few boys from bannockburn...
Anyhow thats a great point. I felt as though some of the Lions boys were cheating too and just running forward, but shame on us for not chasing them!

Pretty much agree with this. With Hurley and Daniher out, Knights is forced to keep McPhee in defence, and we really could have used him down forward tonight. Our gameplan actually wasn't that bad. We just couldn't kick goals and turn the momentum our way. You just can't win games relying on your midfield to kick all the goals week after week. We really need Welsh back to stop the Luke Power/Brent Harvey players who seem to really damage us.

Very one dimensional up forward at the moment and we keep turning it over on the point of the 50, as we have comitted so many number running forward the opposition run it out so easily and kill us on the counter.

Badly missing a Hille/Laycock up forward, we must remebr knight wanted to play 4 talls this year at the moment we cant play Ryder up forward due to ruck duties, we dont have a Hille/Laycock/Gumbleton, Lucas is done and even McPhee is playing down back.

I like out current game plan and think that if the opposition is flooding the midfield we need to play Lloyd and Lucas further up the ground (on the wings) to provide targets laterally. We could then go small deeper forward (Jetta, Winders, Stanton). Also if we are getting smashed in middle then maybe throw Lloydy in there.

Yeah, that was one of the low points for me tonight. In the last few weeks we had looked a little better but against Brisbane I was just in awe of how poorly we executed it.

No, Just missing Hille and Hurley.

I wish Hurley was there so Mcphee could have played half forward.
Hille would have made a big difference if he had a spell up forward

I've been dubious about the new gameplan before, but I've decided that it's worth a go. I just think the players let it down tonight.

Was it a co-incidence that Winderlich was our best option up forward in the first half? I don't think so. Lucas and Lloyd are too slow to get away with anything other than prefect delivery against a disciplined defence.

Our midfield was absolutly smashed against a very good experienced group, and the run off half back was quite bad. Dempsey for me was really ordinary, and NLM isn't the smartest user of the ball.

On top of that we had no half forward leading options as McPhee was down back and Monfries wasn't doing that well. Without McPhee and others on the half forward providing options we don't get the space between the half-back and forward line that we need for the run and carry to work.

Looks good when it works but sides have had enough of a look to try and beat it by now. What is the plan B????? Doesn't exist. Also doesnt help when you CHF gets 75% of his possesions on the HBF. Midfield was poor tonight, even early when they had the ball didnt use it well enough.

Every gameplan is flawed it's about minimising the impact of the flaws and maximising the profits, unfortunately with our current group the profit is the speed in which we can run and darry the flaw is the end kick is usally a clanger. When Geelong get the run and carry going they have not only speed with foot and hand but they also have quality footskills to finish it off.

bombers didnt look switched on dare i say they didnt come to play. they were beaten badly in the middle, maybe in a bigger game they can fire up and start running more, they were running at half pace yesterday.

I agree, it seems we're being pretty badly hit by injuries, we even started the year with a shitload of injuries in the preseason.

Backs
Daniher, Hurley(he's ready now i think.), Fletcher
Mids
McVeigh, Skipworth, Reimers, Welsh, Prismall.
Rucks
Hille, Laycock
Forwards
Gumbleton

Thats 11 players, and i'd say their all in our best 22.

The ball is rushed into our forward line sometimes too quickly and the ball carrier has to kick it quickly where the opposition are 2 or 3 to 1 compared to our 1 player.
Our forwards are too high up the ground for the tactic they use now ,so 2 leading fwds have to play deeper and lead more intelligently.
The ball carrier has to hold the ball up for a split second for this to happen( the ball carrier needs support next to him to hold the ball ie handball ) while the deep fwds do their thing .Also 2 quick crumbers have to be at the fall of the ball .They have to rotate the 2 crumbers through the mid / back and bench to keep the pressure on the opposition backs.
Our fwds have to kick straighter.:(

Gameplan doesn't worry me, our midfield dominated for much of the first half against Brissy, disposal was ok going forward, but our inability to have marking targets inside 50 are killing us, burnt terriblely on the rebound and we don't apply scoreboard pressure so opposition defenders run the lines with confidence.

Get Neagle in the side, may not touch it much but we have seen in a few games last year that he can get space on his man, kick reliably and take contested marks. Let him try to find some form in the seniors because its sure not working for Lucas.

Spot on,
We're playing well, but as we get to the forward line, a bit of stuffy decisions or shotty kicks will get Brisbane the ball, and we get countered badly

Forward line & delivery to it is what sucks.

Brisbane barely wasted a touch forward of centre. Kick kick handpass from the kickout, kick inside 50 -> mark: goal.

Ridiculous. I know Knights doesn't want to flood back etc but if we were to win that match we'd have sat Dempsey in front of Brown to chop him off. Fight fire with fire
