Never had a problem with us when we dont have the ball.... I think we are one of the best teams to win the ball back... I like our contested play.

Where we have had the problems is our ball movement. Our run out of defense.... our offensive play has been shocking. Whether thats been because we have over emphasized defensive structures or players have not been following instructions is the sticking point.

We all agree you have to get the balance right.... Ive never called for Dimma to be sacked... Ive question alot of his decisisons and the clubs decisions. The saddest part it has taken us 9 games to play 4 qtrs of good footy.... regardless of the opposition the "increase in intensity" of ball movement was good .. quoted from Dimmas dissection.

Agree with this 100%

People consider me a bright sider and i guess I am. Hell i would say we all are because if your my generation, 42 years old, if your still supporting then club after the shit served up you have to be lol.

back on point though. Our coach is young, experience wise. i can wear that, as he has brought about foundation change at our club. Our club not just Hardwick stuffed up this off season and I really believe they reconise that now. They tried to fix up our defensive issues from last year but unfortunately changed our team chemistry so drastically that they hammered into our strength.

i still remember Leigh Matthews saying, when the Tigers were on there game and attacking we produced the best football he has ever seen. he said that last year. Regardless of what you may say, Leigh knows his footy. Other coaches also stated that we always have been a really damaging side to play as we were very explosive in our ball use. Ie our transition to attack was lightning and dangerous.

So the changes made in the off season, playing players in other positions etc cause us to loose sight of what worked last year, we focused to heavily on the not working, not the what was working. As nut said, we caught it to late and I do believe Dimma will grow to become a better coach due to it.

Round 9 2013, Richmond produce a shocker and are under the pump heading to perth to play west coast, no one in the media thinks Richmond can win, result, Richmond smash the eagles off the park and go on to have a great 2nd half of the season.

Round 9 2014, Richmond produce a shocker and are under the pump heading to Sydney to play GWS, people in the media give GWS a massive chance to knock over the tigers, result, Richmond smash GWS off the park, will this lead to a great 2nd half of the season, we wait and see.

Last weekend I went down to the game from Canberra. On teh bus they played the 1974 and part of the 69 GF. Soem aspects were so similar, and some were different in how the game was played. A modern team would slaughter the old teams, based on physical strength and fitness, but especially on tactics. The 1980 GF was played ont eh way home. Big change in tactics, but certainly primitive compared to nowadays. In the 60s/70s the game was pretty much kick it long to contest unless there is someone runnign free past you or on their own foward of you. By 1980 it involved much more tactics and playing people isolated than before. Back then most players didn't have to think much, it was fairly straightfoward.

Nowadays tactics are complicated and continually evolving. To me this year we have consitently put in periods of irrisistable football (like 2013) but with long periods of stagnant crap. IMHO we are not a smart team, like the Hawks, Swans or Geelong. Footy smarts come with brains and experience. We haven't got much experience still, but are getting it. And I reckon we have nto a lot of good brains out there.

So what is the relevance of this to the thread. We tinkered with the game plan in the pre-season and came out looking confused and unsure this season. Listening to the players and coach the guys simply weren't doign what they were told to do. I reckon that is partly the team, but largely the coaching group got over smart and confused them. Once the team starts to play how they are meant to they might get comfortable with it and start doign it instinctively. In that way playign GWS was probably good. It was a training run to play the way the coaches want them to. Also playing such patchy garbage for so long can either work to lose confidence or can work to gain understanding. if they feel understanding in the game plan, they might start to do it better. Right now I am 50:50 whcih way it will go. But as a brightsider I reckon they will smack the bombers, gain confidence and go on to a good rest of season.

Yes the coaches got too clever and stuffed the start to the year up. The players have been in and out all season so far. But we have seen way too much really good football to beleive the talent has dissapeared. If they continue to play as they did last week JR will kill it, and TV and Griff might get more consistent. The mids will be better and support the defence better, and the defence will stop others better. We have a few hard games coming, then a long stretch of teams we should beat. If the team has just come through a dark patch and found belief then we should see some good times. But like I said I'm not big on the smarts in our team. I rekcon we are ont he eadge of an abyss, or a peak. I'm not expecting we will muddle along from here.

OK so your shrewd thoughts are, based on your posts....

DH has lost the faith of members bc its plain to see
Hampson blows chunks and the club had no idea
Rabbits eat apples and dine at Harrys
I thought that's what forums were for
People putting opinions on threads allowing for discussion
Unfortunately people think communication is about them talking or what they're typing but the other form is listening /reading in this case to others
This explains why threads can tend to repeat in 5 year cycles as people refuse to see issues from all angles as they become enclosed in their own bubble
People who type away on this forum are not football naive they just are emotionally attached (me included)to the Tigers as well as infected by some form of PC (not me)so they hide behind the facts and use petty arguments or irrelevant stats to feel better
I'm passed this as I only seem to feel better after a win:)

I really wonder if we REALLY needed to change anything. I would love to watch us in an alternate reality where we backed ourselves in and see if we learnt anything in those tight games and that final, I would have loved to see our natural progression. ie. what we learnt from that final and the tight games. no chaning anything just backing the players to improve and get harder and tighter when it really mattered and the pressure was on.

Even Caro said his over quoting of stats was unrealistic and a distraction of the real issues
I believe you can take all this stats stuff too far which is where this thread was headed for

Caro is probably the least-informed person of them all. The only reason she ever got a gig was because of her dad. She tried to back a rival ticket to power at RFC and got nothing. Bitter, ill-informed and bordering on irrelevant. Do like her obvious hate for the bombers though.... it's funny to listen to!

Sounds like she's got some guts
I don't mind if people have a go .yes she is still sour ,but her point to DH was valid

I call BS, there is evidence throughout the forum that suggests you classified yourself as a guru, but the fellowship of gurus has yet to certify you. ;)
Can you show me where this evidence is? I have an opinion like everyone else, funnily enough just like yourself.

Virtually nothing Caro has done in years has been valid.... Caro's views about things coaches say are less valid than the other vacuous dribble she comes out with...

Disagree it appears you have a personal vendetta on her based on her attempted coup
Listen to Hutchy Carey Gary and Darcy if you want to vomit without having a beer

Derickx is and has always been junk. The fact that he has elite players around him make shim survive. He will get the lemon when Pike comes back.

Well last week we made Matt White an elite midfielder, does that mean we can now say DX is AA?
