Same here. Lost interest in the past month with so many blowouts and unwatchable games. 3 blowouts on Sunday with only one team can win the flag.

Next they'll replace Snoop Dogg with Coldplay and Birds of Tokyo for the entertainment which will be the most boring AFL Grand Final entertainment in history. Golden Rose Day will be more fun than the AFL Grand Final this year
You lost interest cos your club has turned to water and is blowing a premiership. Dont pretend otherwise.

Channel 7 ratings are down from previous years and a Grand Final ending in a blowout win will be no good for ratings. Nobody wants to see Chris Scott a 3-time premiership coach

Aside from a few Collingwood supporters lately (for perhaps parallel reasons), nearly everyone who is saying the season is terrible/boring are fans of teams that are struggling (and every year, fans of struggling teams thinks the season is boring and the standard has dropped).

Fact is, we've never seen a top 9 close to this competitive before. We've never seen a team miss with 13 wins (final 8 system) and highly likely a team misses this year with 15 wins. Teams are going from premiership favourites to at risk of missing the 8 within a week. We've never seen 2nd through to 8th/9th effectively separated by 1 win. Most years the top 4 is pretty much locked with over a month to go and the top 8 similar. This season, Gold Coast is currently 9th with 1 round to go and are likely to be top 4! Adelaide is the only team with whom we have a sense of where they'll be in the first week of finals with only a round to go. So may highly consequential games and unknowns this year, with little predictability on who will land where and do what in finals. Usually there are 1-2 dominant teams, a few middling teams and a couple who fall into the 8 with little to no chance. This year, the entire top 9 are good sides with little to separate them.

Yeah, exactly. The last really, really boring season I can remember is 2007... .... ... but I'm not complaining ;)

With all the hype about who finishes top 4 or 8, the season could fizzle out in the worst possible way.

Adelaide go out in straight sets, partly due to Rankine.

Brisbane lose to Hawthorn, finish outside the 4 and lose to GWS or something.

Geelong vs Hawthorn/Collingwood in the grand final, with Geelong winning by 80 again.

Firstly, that seems a highly unlikely scenario.

Brisbane are a quality outfit and unlikely to lose consecutive games at home. Also, Rankine is a very good player but I don't think Adelaide are THAT reliant on him. They have a host of goalscoring options and an underrated midfield led by a quality player and captain.

Even if your scenario did eventuate, I'm not sure the minor premier and reigning premier being knocked out early would make it 'boring', as upsets make finals all the more intriguing. Also, a Geelong Hawthorn or Geelong Collingwood Grand Final would be massively hyped with pretty storied modern rivalries. Also, no chance either of those match ups would end as an 80 point belting. In fact, I think if you were to pick the two league match ups that have the longest history of close games (and decided near/on/after the siren) it would be those 2 match ups (they both have an average winning margin of about 10 points over about 18 years now).

I'm not saying it will happen, but unfortunately it's now quite a plausible scenario.

Brisbane's best is the best, but I'm still not sure they can string 4 great games together again, and they'll need to again to win it.

I agree it's not all doom and gloom with the Crows, but they have other issues (apparently they're 17th for transitioning from d50 to f50). Wonder if it's a year too early anyway.

If we DO get a Geelong Hawthorn GF I'll be going for the Hawks this time. Sick of Geelong.

freo are getting an extra home game for the next 3 seasons..plus they had a 6 week period where they didn't travel

West Coast NEVER got that sort of leg up when they were contending

In 2020, from round 7 to round 13, West Coast played all their games at Optus Stadium. Granted it was during the COVID period but still....and yes they were contending for a Premiership too.

If Collingwood were playing better over the course of the past month, would you still have lost interest??

As a Carlton fan yes.. In previous years I have always known we were bad, this year I came in with expectations and have spent the season somewhere between disappointed, bitter and apathetic. Even the rest of the league has been meh could count on 1 hand the amount of memorable games and outstanding moments. Hopefully an outstanding final series makes up for the snoozefest of 25.

Worse we get a Geelong-Coast Coast Grand Final with Geelong winning by 80

AFL is past its peak to be honest.
2023 was prime AFL just out of the covid pandemic.
2023 was when it was really competive.
Seamed more teams up and about and was alot more open.
Better teams then and they had the wow factor.
Look to 2025 its past it and really becoming a wreak of a comp.
Kind of feeling they AFL cant get anything right and nothing but scandel and players have got issues and social problems in the crowd and alike.
Also was cheaper to attend.
2025 sadly its out of reach for the regular punter.
2025 is must say very meh and vanilla.
Boring lackluster must say.
become bland.

No real surprises either.
No real classic games either.
Kind of got predicable no real games turned on it head.
Under dogs losses and favs win type of season.
Again as per planned.
Kind of as we thought type of season.
No x factor as all.

If you whant less players have less teams. Hawthorn should have moved to Tassie with Malbourne and North Melbourne Merging. Richmond and Essendon could also merge but that could be overkill. There you have a 16 team comp and have about 60 less players.

The “not enough talent” view is a myth.

Essendon has unearthed some gems this year due to their injury list.

There are plenty of worthy players who shine when given the chance, but they’re simply not given the opportunity.

‘Breakout’ games are also more common when a team mate is injured and number 3 or 4 midfield has to move up.

I get sad thinking about all the players throughout history who had to play number 3 or so and were simply never given the chance.

Proper development by clubs is also a factor.

Geelong has not had an easy draw ffs. The only teams we are losing against are the teams we have played twice. 10-1 win loss ratio against the hard teams we have apparently managed to avoid with an easy draw.

And even if we did have an easy draw then so what? Numerous teams have easy draws every year. How the hell would geelong getting an easy draw for once (we almost always have one of the toughest draws due to finishing top 6 every season) even register as a factor in whether a season was the worst afl season?

Ps. The irony of complaining about geelongs draw when you got an away game against us in your home city in front of your home crowd just boggles the mind.

Only conclusion is this is a troll thread.

Easiest, second, third whatever. Point is Geelong finished top 4 last year but were given the draw of a bottom 4 team.

I do believe the older we get, the more senile we become.
In saying that, i remember a decade ago arguing with people on BF about how the game has changed for the worse because of the explosion of rotations and position-less football. Because of that, I lost interest in the week to week a long time ago.

However, the reason this year hasn't been the worst year ever is that at least the game has been watchable since 2021. Between 2012 and 2020 the sport was a rolling maul and just looked like a seagul fighting over a chip. Any one of those 9 season could be the worst ever!!!
