Totally unprofessional and pathetic attitude from the club offical there. Maybe it's a heat of the moment comment and he'll realise what a stupid comment it is in a little while . . . but I'm not holding my breath!

Absolutely disgraceful, indeed... as well as the actions of the Italians living in the Lygon Street section of Carlton/Melbourne... horrible, without a doubt...

I'll probably bring this up in the Worldwide English Soccer forum of BigFooty, but can you envision the Perugia chairman using the situation to get a higher transfer fee for Ahn? After he scored that goal last night, his asking price just skyrocketed, IMO. And for what it's worth, Perugia are one of the clubs vying for USA striker Clint Mathis' signature, so they might use the money to make a nice parlay for him...

Cheers,
William

he ruined italian soccer????

my god, whats he supposed to bloody think "oh no, im playing against italy, the country where i play soccer, i better not try and score a goal, even though that is the aim of the game, i might ruin soccer in their country"

I've already been over this on the soccer board.

It was reported LAST WEEK that Ahn was to be sold. I'd say the main reason Perugia sold him was because he was **** in Serie A. He has been given 3 seasons to prove himself and only scored 5 goals. What do you do with players who haven't performed over a substantial period of time? Sell them.

As for the Lygon St 'Italians'. They were disgraceful. I went to watch the Euro 2000 final there two years ago and i have never heard such racism in my life.

That's hardly the point Chris

If those quotes from the Chairman are correct they border on Racism.

Clearly he is trying to jump on the anti Korean sentiment in Italy and it does him no favours.

I am sure the player will be getting a nice fat contract somewhere around the world after his goal.

Probably United where he'll again fail to do anything

The fact is, he was sold before Italy lost. Football is a billion dollar industry. Players wouldn't just be sold because they scored against a certain country...

You're right. I don't condone what the Perugia chairman said, but the fact is that he was always going to be sold. The comments shouldn't have been made, i can't imagine many foreign players wanting to play for Perugia now.

It's funny isn't it...in other sports it would be the total opposite.

Eg:

Shane Heal in the Olympics against the US, he lights it up and plays really well, picks fights with Barkley...... and by doing this it increased his chances of being able to play in the US.

Stucey... why are your posts always edited by "George W. Bush"?

Under your sig, it says: Last edited by George W. Bush on 19-08-3061 at 12:00 PM. What is with that? Has anyone else noticed this... ? It's been happening for a while now.

That is because he has copied a normal "last edited post" into his signature and replaced it with George W ;)

Can't blame Italy for what the chairman of Perugia said. And they way they carried on after the loss.... If it were England, would it be any different? Even if it was Australia I would expect the same reaction.

I don't know, but it seems like the King of Sour Grapes reaction to me, maybe I've just got a short memory, maybe I'm blinkered. But I don't think that Australia would carry on as much (the Poms might ;)), I think we'd be inclined to be annoyed but in the end get on with things. I could well be wrong but I'd be ashamed if we were carry out like such bad sports, even though things did go against them, to carry on as much as some Italians such as the Perugia Chairman is too much IMHO.

The Argies aren't particularly well liked around sporting circles but at least they didn't carry on as much when they bowed out and they had some questionable decisions go against them.

If Italian soccer wants to continue its fine history and tradition it needs to remove the victim mentality and admit that they could have done better despite decisions going against them.

Doh...just started a thread about this on the Soccer board as it appears that nobody had talked about it...dont bother with my thread then :D

On the issue...whether he was already being sold or not, those comments were stupid and very unprofessional. I hope Sth Korea win the whole thing...unless of course England win it.
