I'm no coach, but I'm led to believe all coaches play a season to get to the finals, Lyon was the king of this in his early SK days. Now that the easy road is ahead, and we now know we HAVE to build for September, expect some players to be entered that they are chasing to build confidence/games. Enter Sonny Walters, this next month will be the most important of his life, i hope he can translate his form and intent he has shown this year in the wafl, seriously too good for WAFL.

Expect his name in the team this week, and expect the return of Mora very shortly to build his confidence. Ross known for smoke and dagger stuff when it comes to team selection (Jones and Montana spring to mind) so i wouldn't be surprised if he's named as a sub this week. Hopefully they try and use Spurr during this next few weeks (against the easier teams) he's another that will benefit from exposure/confidence and on song, personifies what the dockers want to be known as.

Football was always going to be more interesting for us in the second half of the season the way things have panned out, goals are going to rain, hopefully it rains for the right people

He has been doing well without being great for Swannies. Murray Newman has been playing better and came on as a super sub for WC. Chris25 picked him out very well.

But I honestly think Walters is one of those players that plays much better in elite company.

I'd say he's getting close to selection. You wouldn't want 18 Sonny Walters' on the ground, but he's one of those mercurial forwards who can be invaluable. He's one of those guys with total confidence. I remember the goal he kicked to beat the Lions at the Gabba. From the pocket, time ticking down, all the pressure on his scrawny shoulders. He nailed it and that's why I like him.

I'm also surprised by his character. I always thought he could take or leave an AFL career. He was told to shape up or ship out, and to my surprise, he put his head down, and he's done very well for a bloke on the cusp of losing his contract.

This as well. Son Son won't win you a game when everyone else is struggling. But he's very much an asset when he's got decent support, which he will have.

Is Ross a cloak and mirrors kind of guy? Seems a straight shooter to me.

Definitely.

We have had 1 late change all year and every bit of media he has mentioned who is and isn't likely to come in.

He mustn't be far away. He's been picked in the 25 2 weeks in a row now. He might have to wait until a forced out but he isn't far imo.

Yeah, but with news that Mello is getting pretty close, Walters might have to get his gig pretty soon or I can't see how he's going to fit in to a best 22 given the position he plays.

Cloak and Smoke sounds shiftier imo

Would love to see sonny back and iirc if you get 2-3 weeks in a row as an emergency/extended squad, you're likely to get a game (except Kepler or JA)

The next 4 games are the perfect opportunity to ease him back in to the side and release Ballantyne and all his pressure in to the middle - i wish we had a few more like him, his speed, agression and strength for someone of his size are immense (people calling him weak have likely only ever seen his "highlights reel" of suspensions and hits)

If I recall correctly, the Demons record at Etihad is pretty average over the last few years.

I was not a fan of Sonny after getting dropped to WAFL.... but yes it's time. Etihad, small ground, precise kicking needed and a few goals. Just hope he realizes getting into the side was the easy bit, staying there is the hard part.
