Only a rumour I know, but I saw this piece on the "West Australian" web site today.

Looks like Jack may be paid out of the remaining year of his contract, rumoured to be $300k, at the end of the year.

No surprises there though, but this amount still counts under our salary cap for next year which makes the decision to delist him a little tougher.

He apparently likes it here now, so will he become Chris Tarrant Mk II?

That is, is he our next failed Collingwood forward to become a champion full back?

I'd have to have a good look at the list, but are we that desperate that we can't find other/cheaper options to delist than JA? Also, if he is able to make it as a backman (which I think he can), then why wouldn't we keep him on our list for that reason alone - cut Faulks, Grover is on the way out, that would be two spots that need filling both tall(ish) backs. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Also, he's not fully Chris Tarrant MkII yet UNTIL he's turned into a successful FB who then wants to PO, so he's not done yet on that front either.

Damn, when I saw "lion" in the URL, I thought crazy Vossy might have wanted to take him off our hands.... Can only hope I guess.

Remember that he was a fullback/backman all through juniors. He only got a shot in the forward line at the Pies because they were out of options. He did so well in the forward line that year that everyone forgot he was a backman.

I feel sorry for the bloke, as he hasn't had a real chance to show what he can do in his best position... full back. Agree with what the other blokes say. Grover gone at the end of the year, Faulks good but not demanding a spot. We'd be crazy to get rid of him.

Honestly, I think all consideration of playing him in the forward line should be binned for all time unless it was a tactical thing (Adam Hunter/Jarrad Waite style) during a game for him to swing forward.

His and Freo's best interests would be served by having Subi continue to play him back, and let his form demand a spot in the team for him. Silvagni got his shot. Grover is getting his shot now. If he continues to play well, there's every chance he'll get a shot in the back line as well at some point. You need depth in key positions. He's not at all a bad backup option at full back, or even as a third tall. It's surely just a rumour.

Agree Lach, but that's the understatement of the year... there's daylight between Silvagni's field kicking at its best and Jacks at its worst. I think Jack is the best field kick of any of our KPDs (except maybe for MJ).

Depending on what happens with SNOS we might be needing Jack on the list next year, whether we want him or not.

Faulks too maybe, it would be risky to go into a season with only two or three key backs in the entire squad.

Hang onto him, i think he can turn into a really good defender for us. Its not like we have a plethora of key defenders coming through the ranks - Luke Mac and Grover are on the backside of their careers, Zac and SOS while young enough i wouldnt particularly want these two as our only choices.

The club says nothing in that article about paying out Anthony, it's a presumption by the author nothing more.

With Grover gone at the end of the year and question marks currently hanging over the heads of SCOS & Faulks I think 2 of either Anthony, SCOS or Faulks needs to be retained. Also an eye on which one is more likely to lift their game and push for a long term future with the club and actually want to be here without wanting to go home as well. No point giving Faulks the flick, trading SCOS and retaining Jack only for him to play out the final year of his contract and request a trade back to collingwood, leaving us with 1 full back - Dawson.

Like every else said, makes no sense to pay him out and delist him. Might as well keep him on the list for next year if we're paying him anyway.

Add John Townsend to the 'hack' journalists list.

Nah, it's better to go the other way. Start keeping a respected sports journalist list instead. It's much easier to manage and maintain.

Yeah, your list keeps getting shorter by the season.

Long live Matt Price:(

yeah like above.. not worth paying out.. handy depth in the back half... otherwise.. anthony for cloke, beams, plus 1st rounder... eddie would jump at it given the chance.. he rates him

Defiant Docker Jack Anthony says his best football is ahead of him and wants to follow in the footsteps of another Collingwood product, Chris Tarrant, in turning a stalled career as a forward into a rejuvenated one as a defender.

Anthony said he had no regrets about moving to WA to join Fremantle. He said he loved the city and had been welcomed by other players.

“He would love to be playing seniors. He trains hard, he is enthusiastic. I just find him a really decent person,” Lyon said.

Part of me hopes he is taking the piss and part of me would love to see him turn it around. He was great last year as a defender against Collingwood. But I will be disappointed if he gets another contract if he doesn't make a massive turnaround in the latter part of the season.

Does this article put to bed some of the rumours that he is not liked amongst the players?

If we delist Anthoney this year his salary for next year will be included in this years cap.

If we have the salary cap cup space for this year, its a great ideal as it release an another $300k for next year.

Also, depending on the next years Vets rules will determine Grover's future. If the vets rule is planned to come in is that each vet has $100k off the salary cap instead of half the wage, Then offer Grover $200k to be a relief player.

Well if Silvagni leaves (which I would if I was him) we will need him.

Well if he leaves he's soft. Fremantle Football Club gave him a chance when no one else did. Silvagni hasn't taken his chances this year, and hasn't exactly looked like someone fighting for his AFL life. I'm not sure he will spit the dummy, take his bat and go home... hope he's a bit better and harder than that.
