Greatest set of steak knives ever!! Brisbane must be wondering what if.

I think they know "what if" - Dayne Zorko is the only person who was on their list in the 2014 season that even arguably wouldn't have been better for them to give to us than Crisp. But I can tell you that if you swapped Zorko and Crisp on GF day 2023, Brisbane probably win that game.

It was basically the worst possible deal they could have made.

No disrespect to Jim Stynes whatsoever here, however even equaling the record, I consider Crisp has actually surpassed it now.

In Stynes defence, he didn't have the access to sports science and the facilities on the level that Crispy does, but he also didn't have concussion protocols. He didn't risk suspensions for simple football acts because someone's head was knocked slightly. He didn't play in an era of clubs being extra cautious of players playing with soft tissue injuries and excessive scans. He also didn't play through a global pandemic.

In the modern era, it would be significantly harder to play any significant number of consecutive games than it was during Stynes' career for those reasons.

Well done Mr Consistent! He's clearly had a lot of luck but he also does a lot of hard work and displays a lot of discipline with his body.

I think he's soft. Clearly doesn't push himself hard enough on night's out.

Comparisons are odious but you could easily say Stynes racking up consecutive games as a ruckman in that era was a much harder thing to do. Or even McHale's 191 straight. He managed that over 12 seasons - same as Crisp - which included a World War(as did Jack Titus' mark of 202).

My point was in fact, that they don't compare. The two stints are in very different eras of our game, and each has had different hurdles to deal with.

My opinion however, remains that Crisp has more obstacles in this era, that would stop you playing (mandatory reasons like concussion protocols and suspensions that are handed out far easier now), than Jim Stynes faced.

Injuries-wise, Jim Stynes may have been more prone to succumbing to those without the modern era of player management and recovery. On the flip side, you could also argue that the pace of our game now, may actually increase the risk of some injuries, despite advances in sports science.

Anyway, Crisp will go down as a champion of the game, as was Stynes. It's taken a long time for anyone else to reach his record and now Crisp will hold the record on his own and it's well deserved.
