Kennedy's best footy seems to be behind him now.

Does Darling have 65-75 goal capabilities as a #1 forward?

Hard to say, but we will be finding out in the next year or two either way.

Great thing is even if Kennedy hangs up the boots we have Oscar Allen and to a lesser extent Jarrod Brander ready to slot straight in.

On topic, his debut All Australian just adds to the legend ever since he was rumoured to be receiving sexual favours in a tent. Hope he wins more AAs and premierships (perhaps even jag a Coleman) and retires a 300 game one club player.

Brander is definitely not ready to slot straight in for JK lol

If he was a "the" focal point I would say yes. Ben Brown with another tall in the forward line is only good for 30-40.

66 goals in a 22 game season is three goals a game.

How many players have done that over the last 5 years while playing 20+ games?

JK x2, buddy x2, Eddie betts, Tom Lynch, Jeremy Cameron.

So not many will kick 65-75 goals in a season. Happily given the additional fire power we’ve found (Ryan, Rioli, Allen, Cameron, Cripps, Petch) we won’t need him to as we can spread it around a bit more

Interestingly he does have an extremely high conversion rate this year. He actually has the highest goal/behind conversation rate of the top 17 players in the goal kicking tally. Himmelberg is 18th with a slightly higher conversion.

Darling kicked 54.18, with a conversion rate of 75%. Now.. goals are the idea and it's outstanding if a guy can convert at that rate consistently.. but can he do it consistently. He didn't take many shots at goal compared to the others around him and he is way above the AFL average on conversion. If he falls back around the average conversion rate.. he will be below 45 goals for the year. Why is this happening? Good positioning to suit his kicking? He's just a good shot at goal? A lucky year? Maybe a West Coast fan can answer this question... But can he do this again next year and on-going? Because reality is that if he gets the same shots at goal but can't keep up the accuracy he will sink pretty hard. But then again, maybe when JK retires... it will give him more opportunities at goal.

He is not a long kick and rarely has a shot for goal when the man on the mark is further than about 45 out.

He is very good one out and usually takes the contested grab or draws a free, leading to an easy shot on goal in most cases.

He is good at ground level and a pretty accurate snap.

He reads the flight well and is not averse to the easy one out the back. JK getting double teamed helps these, but that is happening less and less often.

He punches well above his weight in the ruck at F50 stoppages. He probably has about 5 goals from ruck freekicks/taking it out of the ruck this year (incl. throw ins).

All of the above helps with his accuracy.

Pretty ordinary again tonight when his team needed him. Was like a deer in the headlights again early setting the tone in that first quarter. 2 simple dropped chest marks that could of been goals which would of settled the eagles down , then nearly missed his foot when given yet another Joe the Goose in the square. Eagles Wouldn’t of fallen so far behind and when they did hit their straps instead of drawing level , they may have had a match winning lead.

Oh well until next year. Can’t wait to see him beat up on ordinary teams again. Will miss it over summer

3 goals from 45 shit inside 50s. 5 tackles too which is good for a big man.

Would’ve had more influence with Hawkins/Ratugolea’s delivery. Just wasn’t WCE night. Not a terrible way to round off a great season.

BEST
West Coast: Gaff, Hurn, Darling, Naitanui, Yeo, Jetta

AFL.com had him as our third best player, but hey whatever helps you sleep at night.

If he took his chances when the game was hot early instead of shitting the bed AGAIN the Eagles win that game and are playing next week.

Afl.com also produces Damian Barrett’s sliding doors article so yeah

Game was lost in the midfield today, Geelongs was better and gave their team better supply.

Kennedy was worse than Darling, Cripps also so your love child wasn't the biggest concern.
