Genuine question Dees, what can you tell me about Jack Fitzpatrick, just a youngster I know, just picked up. Not sure of his age 17/18 maybe.
Thanks . Good luck for a move up the ladder this year.

I don't expect him to play a senior game this year.. Will need time to develop..
Could break into the side next year or the year after...

Shouldn't play seniors this year. Will be groomed as a key forward with Casey. Athletic, but skills, particularly kicking, may take a while.

Small, but slow midfielder.

Elite skills.

Thanks Dees for the info. I hope he's ready to go, when the Dees develope and move upwards . He's a relo of a very long time good friend of mine. Thanks JJ.

I hate to label someone this early (0 games i know its ridiculous) but he has spud written all over him.

I'm absolutely bewildered we took Fitzpatrick ahead of Troy Taylor (even with all his baggage). Taylor has so much more to offer than Fitzpatrick in my humble opinion.

Whilst I agree he is a hit and miss type player and was picked on physical attributes, we have enough Taylor type players (flankers/midfielders) what we need is a big FF which is why we tried Fitzpatrick

Im stoked we took anyone ahead of Troy Taylor- cancerous influence who I would put my house on doing something else scandalous in the next 5 years. How many second chances does a kid need?

On topic though- its real hard to see Fitzpatrick becoming a solid KPF for us, but these project players look like absolute spuds early in their careers and with some luck he may become one of the good ones! Given how dedicated he has been to managing his chronic fatigue syndrome I have no doubt if he does fail it WONT be due to a lack of work on his behalf.

Correct. He'll fail because he's a spud.

I can understand drafting a 201cm kid in order to groom him as a ruckman, but to play as a KPF, you actually need a high level of skill.

Oh wait, I forgot Brad Miller has been playing as a KPF for us for 5 years. I take that back.

We should have taken Ben Sinclair who went to the pies.

Speedy, hard at it and tidy skilled midfielder who's dad played for the club.

But I see why we went for the Fitz. He is a massive gamble as a tall forward, but we desperately need him to come off!

Hard to know how big players develop, Dean cox was a spud at one stage too. He will most likely end up as nothing but worth the punt with that pick cos his height in the forward line would be a big advantage if he develops into a player

ER, not quite, Brad's actually in his ninth season.

Good of you to write the kid off before he's even out of his first pre-season :thumbsu:

Don't know much about Sinclair? Have you seen him play much?

Anyway, we already have a plethora of midfield options, and taking a gamble on Fitz with a late pick, in a weak draft, is something I would consider intelligent, particularly when you consider how much potential he has, and how much we need another KPF to emerge.

Remember, he was once touted as a top 5, or at the very least top 10, pick for the 2009 draft.

Correct. I remember an interview with an Eagles player (I think it was Embley) who stated that when Cox first arrived at the club, he was wondering what the hell the recruiters were thinking. He said that Cox could hardly run in a straight line :D

As such, give the kid a bit of time before writing him off, saying he's a spud, saying we should have selected someone else etc.

Have a bit of faith.

As I said, you can develop kids with physical attributes but limited skills into ruckmen (Jamar), but gone are the days of plonking a beanpole (Bob Heard) with average skills in the goalsquare, and expect him to be a long term KPF.

cannons, name one other recognised KPF currently in the AFL with a similar skillset to Fitzpatrick.

The kid may develop into a ruckman, be he'll never be a KPF.

Kurt Tippett says hello. :)

But ....Im covinced Fitzpatrick is a spud

Why won't he?

- He's an excellent contested mark which is one of the most important things that a KPF requires and is something you can't really teach.

- He's extremely quick for his size.

- He's very agile for his size.

His kicking is suspect but that's something that can be improved with practice.

Not saying he will become a successful KPF for us but it's extremely moronic of you to write him off before he's played an official game let alone had a couple of years to develop a KPF size frame.

Seem to recall Bailey talking him up as the 'surprise packet of the pre-season' in the last week or so which is positive. I didn't see him in action in any of the NAB games, does anyone know how he went?
Having watched some of the youtube junior footy clips prior to the draft I was disappointed we picked him, thought he looked a bit of a nothing player (felt the same about Strauss the year before), but at pick 50 you can take a gamble and given his size and speed, if it works out then it'll be a real bonus (big IF there). I also expect him to play the whole season at Casey, maybe get a handful of games next year.

Speculative late pick in a shallow draft. We were able to pick him up because McKenzie agreed to stay on the rookie list one year longer so effectively he's a bit of a free hit. Definitely a project player.

Positives are good speed off the mark and very good contested marking ability. Probably both good be considered elite for his age. Very tall & agile for a key forward.

Negatives are poor disposal.

Other issues has been that's he's battled Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for a large part of his teenage years, although he has now fully recovered.
The CFI must have had an impact on his ability, and now that he's clear of that there's no reason to suggest why he can't steadily improve.

If he can make it he'd be very difficult to match up on and would be an asset to the forwardline. I really can't see the issue with him, everyone is crying out for a key forward so when the clubs picks up a project player there's complaints
