Im Giving Lukosious the first half of the season, if it doesnt work in the forward line i think we could use him on a wing or defense as a half back quartarback.
Didnt he scoff at the suggestion last year of playing down back even when you guys needed some support down there due to injury?

He sees himself as a forward only?

If he doesn't work forward, I would have him as the third tall, interceptor, run off in defence. His huge kick would be a weapon back there.

Lukosius has maintained both at Gold Coast and when he came to Port that he thinks his best football is played as a forward, that's where he thinks he can give most value. No player is going to refuse to play another position, but that is his stated preference.

Carr in his post-match press conference said one of the problems we had was the forward line didn't move enough. I remember key forwards being way behind the play when we pushed forward - and not just Lord. I would guess Carr's comment was a dog whistle for Lukosius to come into the side this week and set the standard for movement around the forward line by a key forward.

He did this at gold coast, not at port.

If he doesnt perform at the level playing as a forward unfortunately the choice will not be his. But there is a decent chance he plays good in the forward line this year i think.

Whitlock was guilty of this multiple times. Simply not reading the play where the team are battling for a 50/50 ball - needs to be aware that it's not going to be a nice clean play out of there and likely to be a dump kick 30m forward. Whitlock was well behind his defender on a number of occasions there.

Lord is a similar type. You can probably play one that does that, keep the defenders honest - but not two.

I think Lord is more of a stay at home forward though, so Whitlock is the one that needs to get on his bike.

Lord is a stay at home forward he’s normally 25 metres behind his man when the balls coming in.

Luko can be a great forward, but it’s not going to be a big traditional mark clunking type.

Just needs to work on his tank, and get up the ground, running around for handballs, and linking up in transition. Just think what Jeremy Cameron does up the ground.

He could even at times sit behind the ball as an extra defender. Give him the freedom to go with what the game needs.

If he gets 15 kicks a game he is gonna do some damage.

For skill (and value for touches) Jack Lukosius is eons ahead of Ollie Lord, but imo he needs to play the roaming half forward role so he can get enough space to exploit that skill.

I don't know anything about old mate the Pieman's `Jake' Lukosius, or where he should play if selected. ;)

I'll be surprised if lukosius is still playing by half time lol cut from the same cloth as oraaaziooo fantasia

Luko missed 13 games in 6 seasons at the SUNS.

Last year he had a freak impact injury that fractured his patella, and then had soft tissue injuries trying to play catch-up for fitness in the back end of the year (not to mention being rushed back to play by Hinkley and our horrid medical staff).

Fantasia played 20 games or more once in 12 seasons. Luko has played 20 or more in 5 of his 7 seasons.

Yeah it’s more bad luck than anything but he’s going to be under extra scrutiny considering what we paid for him and his soft approach to the game.
Hopefully he can have a good run this season once he’s back so he only gets canned for his soft efforts.

Durability and application are definitely separate with Luko.

You can't command $1m a year and not put in.

Incorrect, he was asked directly by Will Goodings on 5aa last year with the departure of Houston if he would be willing to play down back given his kicking skills.

He scoffed, shook his head and said he has done that experiment a few times, it raised eyebrows at the time (mine anyway) because the typical, generic answer would be that he would be happy to play wherever the team most needs him, especially for a bloke new to the club.

We don't listen to 5 double crow unless it's a crows finals loss and Rowey gets a bit feral

cool, go back to where your from.

I've always seen him as a gorilla in the goalsquare type forward, but his body has not developed to allow for that. He's not particularly fast off the lead, nor does he have amazing forward craft, leading patterns or anything like that. But he has taken some good strong marks when the ball is plonked on his head.

Jeremy Cameron played a grand final with a snapped arm. One of the more courageous team first players going around. The campaigner.

Not sure comparisons to Luko are apt.
