the bump needs to go. the game has evolved where it no longer is relevant. Concussions are causing players later on in life to suffer some terrible symptoms. Anyone who says it need to stay obviously hasn't been on the receiving end of a bump at AFL level. Good on the AFL for looking after players' welfare. It's 2014 not 1974. We gotta look forward and improve the game.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, Mate, go and watch netball, and leave us alone. We are a few men having a conversation. Sit on the ladies table.

Listen to The Ox on SEN, listen to even Kevin Bartlett, destroyer of the current game, listen to Mark Ricciuto, listen to 100% of the coaches, and explaying media. If you think this is suspendable, DON'T LISTEN TO YOU, you are out of touch BIG TIME.

I just read Damian Barrett's piece on the AFL site.

A simple response to this is, "why is contact to the head in a marking contest not penalised?"

If there is such a problem with heads receiving strong blows, why don't they outlaw all of it? Surely the AFL is condoning head injuries by ignoring knees in the back of heads in marking contests.

And if a player is tackled and a head clash occurs, there is no penalty. Why not? Why only for bumps (which is a legal part of the game) and not for the other things I mentioned?

If they are worried by lawsuits in the future, then why don't players sign a consent form to cover such incidents?

I agree that blatant head high hits should be punished. Accidental ones, (which are still occurring because this stuff just happens) should be just that. They haven't stopped these hits and I'm not even sure they have reduced them. You can stop players jumping into contests, which reduces the chance of high contact being made, but when a player does his best to stay low and avoid high contact - but circumstances beyond his control don't allow this, I don't see the point in 'blaming' or 'punishing' him. It serves no purpose.

I rate Leigh Mathews higher, he said Viney was slightly negligent. I agree a week to Viney for shirking the bump not lowering his shoulder one on one and not prepared to eyeball Lynch and turn his head right at the end due to fear from being a smaller player!

Viney was without the ball, the onus and control was with him!

Lynch took "possession" of the ball the instant before impact.

Again, is there a rule that says head shall not embrace shoulder?

Says you and three other people in Australia. You really need some expert advice. Who do you respect in the game? Name anyone, then go listen to them and their opinions on this. I guarantee that they believe that Viney is innocent. Does that not mean anything to you? Did you hear my opinion about the MCG grass is Blue.

It should be , umpires are negligent but if force minimal doesn't warrant a suspension if incidental. Due to risk of injury, same duty of care not present!

The 'speccie' is an icon of the game of Australian Rules football.

Not even the AFL is dumb enough to legislate against that.

Leigh Matthews judging a player for rough conduct is rich.

Well if Viney gets off any other player who hit with a shoulder opponents head should be screaming bloody murder.

One can't keep rewarded such incompetence!

The BIGGEST sniper in the game HAHAHAHA, this just keeps getting better and better. I respect Leigh Matthews too. Is he the ONLY man with ANY creditability in Australia that thinks this. Maybe he had a few too many scooby snacks prior to viewing. Or is he brainwashed into thinking that slow motion is where you get to see the true story. LOL, my god, Leigh Matthew Sllllllliiiiiiiipppppppp, down a few rungs on my ladder. Probably shouldn't of had him climb up after he slept with Michael Christians wife and got kicked out of Collingwood in disgrace.

There are plenty of people who think he's guilty, they're just being drowned out by the enormous amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth from people who refuse to let go of their emotion when making their judgment.

I think it highlights how incompetent some of these athletes are when and how to use a bump in certain situations and some of these below par coaches cannot be helping!

Its like these big guys being allowed to push away.

You have a lot more guys in now 18 teams that simply do not know yet how to play the game properly!

So he did not make contact with his hip and shoulder then?

He braced and received contact from Lynch. Viney was a moving target as was Lynch but Viney slowed and braced for contact hence lynch had the greater momentum and subsequently Viney went backwards.

If you stand still and someone runs into you have you bumped them because your hip and shoulders made contact? No.

I want to be the minority down with the moral majority

I will ask you the same question, try to keep up.

Are you happy to see the game go down the toilet for the sake of bureaucracy?
No

But people Bitch and moan about Consistency now we have a black a white ruling and they bitch that they don't like it

Name an example of someone getting concussed from this situation recently
