I'm guessing he played back yesterday because Kolo was rested. He's been back from injury for 3 weeks in the VFL and been second in the best the last 2 weeks, doubt they give him a run like Walker just got though.

Would still love to see Hawk, Kersten, Brown in the forward line for the next 3 weeks - maybe rotate Blitz/Murdoch out. Could be potent, won't happen though, be surprised if he gets another game this year to be honest. I don't feel like CS rates him that highly.

Agree. With 2 small defensive forwards and Jimmy / SJ as the medium. Id pay to see that…

Go Catters

Yep, Bundy, Caddy, Murdoch, Mots hanging around their feet.

Saw CS walking into the ground at the VFL yesterday when I was leaving, should've given him some advice on how to do his job haha would've been well received i'm sure. Anyways, I just tweeted the coach about this one!

You guys realise we are only one loss away from our season being done. there's no margin for error now if we are to make top 4.
Do you think Dogs are a chance? Or more importantly, Thurlow for Enright could be the difference?

catempire, do you think it might be because the dogs' midfield is meant to be so dangerous that the MC want to have our strongest backline available to work on our rebounding game again?

I'm finding it baffling TC.

I'll admit id have thought at the start of the year he would have been a semi regular by now. But I can only assume they think he is just a little off where they want. Perhaps being made to really earn it like young Jed? If it goes pear shape at all Id expect him to be immersed in the seniors very quickly.

I don't know Teriyakicat. In my view, if we can't beat the Dogs comfortably with Thurlow in for Boris we are making up the numbers anyway.

I really like Thurlow- and am disappointed as you that he isn't getting a game. Who knows what the MC are looking for- with their structures, their specific match ups vs opposition players, etc. The only thing I can hope is that he is getting worked on in the VFL in the same way that GHS was last season, in that his skills and his game nous are getting refined and honed there so that, when he eventually breaks into the seniors, he will be extremely hard to dislodge from the team.

One of the gripes I have with him not getting a game is that he is missing out on playing alongside one of the best backlines in the AFL and that's something that game simulation just cannot replicate- no matter how much of it he is getting on training day.

I was going to post 'another glass half full comment'! But I think this latest contribution is more like 'glass empty'

We are 1 game off top 2! This is now the pointy end of what has been, despite expectations from some on this board and others, very successful. CS & the MC will now unleash the game plan for the run to the finals. All has been done, form and injuries aside, and it is now game on.

For me, I am more 'glass spillith over' than 'glass almost empty'. Can't wait.

was thurlow injured when sheringham was getting minutes in the backline earlier in the season? if not, then that was also a strange decision.

When it was pretty self evident that Smedts wasn't a backline player then Thurlow should have been his replacement. Rather than being a straight swap for just Enright, with his height, there is no reason why Thurlow can't come in for Mackie or even Rivers if we go for a slightly smaller set up down back. I'd like to see him play at least 5-6 games this year. I don't get that Smedts is named ahead of him on the extended bench this week.

Smedts i suspect is seen as a future elite player and they want to pump games into him. Thurlow's last senior game showed he isn't ready, at least then. Not sure how his form has been in the VFL, but consistency will be the key for him, so I suspect thats lacking, at least in the MC's eyes.

Seems from the comments by CS this week they haven't quite decided where Thurlow's best fit is just yet either.

One change is ok. Maybe 2. But that would be it. Theres been about 8 suggested changes I've spotted on the boards so far. Doggies are not without a chance. They upset Collingwood and they now have Griffen and Roughead back. Their strength is the midfield which is a bit of a weakness for us at the moment with no Stokes and Selwood and Johnson playing injured. Yeah this could be a danger game if the doggies come to play.

Yep I'm a glass half empty guy. The post where I said that I think the most likely outcome is that we will win every home and away game from now was very glass half empty. Don't you think? Acknowledging we have no room to lose a game doesn't mean that I'm not optimistic about chances of winning. If we lose another game then our mathematical chances of making the top four become quite slim. Do you disagree with this? It doesn't mean I think we will lose another game (although if we rest 7 starting 18 players I might change my view). Again learn to read before posting.

If that's the case we might as well make 8 changes because top 4 is no chance and the flag a pipedream. A top 4 team wins this matchup by 6-8 goals minimum.

If Thurlow's game against Port is the reason for his constant omission, that is pretty unfair considering what Smedts dished up against the Swans. I like Smedts, but I think he is the vastly inferior prospect to Thurlow - particularly as a defender.
If we're judging players based on the Port performance Thurlow should have about 20 colleagues languishing in the VFL with him!
