I know this was put up a while ago, but what a legend. I am really keen for Thurlow to be in the side Round 1, especially if Cam Guthrie moves into the midfield.Just wanted to give a shoutout to Thurls - this was months ago, but I don't think I ever mentioned it on here - Turbocat 's avatar just reminded me.
There's a boy about 18-19 in the cheersquad who comes with his Mum to every game - don't know anything about the situation so I shouldn't really comment, but he quite clearly has some form of disability.
Anyway, after Thurlow was drafted, this kid bought the very first Jackson Thurlow badge from the Cats shop. He goes to every VFL game, and Thurls was always really nice to him at every VFL game, had long chats with him whenever he saw him there, and was apparently rapt when he saw that the kid was wearing his badge.
Before his debut, Jackson came over to the fence during the warm up and had a really good chat with him as he does at the VFL games (which is when I gathered the above), talked about how excited he was, etc. I thought it was really nice of him to show a genuine interest in somebody who was, quite clearly, his biggest fan.
We won the match - I can't remember who against - and after the game, all of the players collected those mini footballs from a bag, signed them, and ran off in all directions to hand them out to kids. Now - when this happens, the players never come to the cheer squad. When Thurlow grabbed his footy - 150 metres away at the other end of the ground - he jogged in a straight line directly to the cheersquad to find his biggest fan, gave him the footy, ruffled his hair, and then ran down the race with the rest of the boys.
Really nice moment. Good on you, Thurls.![]()
Thurlow is so composed and poised, definitely has a touch of class, and doesn't at all seem overawed during games. Much like Guthrie he does everything quite well, and shows flashes of genuine brilliance.
