No one trades for unrestricted free agents.
Not quite true.
It may depend if you're trading a FA in and one out.
If you've got a higher value UFA going out you might receive decent compo pick. If you get a FA in at the same time you might trade a cheapie so as not to affect your compo pick.
I think Port /Essendon did this with Monfries.

They traded about pick 50 though from memory.

Any trade for a free agent would be a very late pick like that and would happen rarely.

Collingwood don't really Need him

That won't stop Buckley. Could say the same about North, really should be down to Blues and Bombers if list balance is a priorty.

Actually we do.

Adams is our only genuine ball winner at the centre bounce. Treloar and Pendles are both fine in this aspect but what makes them so great is what happens after they've been handed the ball.

It sucks that we still have a need for inside mids after spending so much resources on them already but that's just the reality. Getting Reid as FA and Hopper with our 1st rounder isnt a bad result.

Hopper will still require a #8-#15 to move him from GWS, As well as a contract worth 4x$400k +

I'm kind of hoping for Bam Bam to come to Richmond and Brig his mate Harry (fred) Himmelberg with him

If the Saints miss out of Kelly, Hopper would be a good substitute. Even if Hawthorn win a few more games their pick should be a top ten pick, which we could use for Hopper and either ask for Himmelberg as steak knifes, or a 2nd round pick back.

Collingwood would be a horrible fit imo they've already invested so much in that midfield. Essendon and North best fits surely.

Lonergan and Mackie retiring. Taylor only one further year away at the most. That frees up a fair degree of cash.
How do you get him without giving up a first, though? Surely you have to use your 2018 1st, considering you haven't had one the past 3 years

The details of that appear to be sketchy, and the interpretation different depending on whom you hear it from! The latest that I've heard is that we can continue to trade out even next year's first. Pure_Ownage is the expert on this and can possibly clarify.

This would be an extremely risky move, probably worth it to get a talent like Hopper into the club though! Would just have to find another first elsewhere, somehow. I'd hope the Crows have inquired about Hopper, although it doesn't seem like we're in the running at all

Hopper himself is the equivalent of having a top 10 pick in the draft without the risk

No, that rule only kicks in in 2019.
