Hopper is middle of first round at the very worst. If people think he is an end of first/ early second they are dreaming. If that is the case we should be offering a fourth for Charlie Cameron.

That's all Cameron is worth. Most overrated player in the AFL. Soft outside player that can't finish. Ashtray on a motorcycle. He will be so bad if he goes to the Lions.

The AFL use the free agent compo as an equalisation tool so they bloody well might but they should be getting a third rounder for him.

Exactly all us Carlton supporters realise this.

AFL gifted Melbourne pick 3 for Frawley leaving as a way to help them.
They gave Brisbane an end of first round priority pick last year.

We could be finishing last for the 2nd time in 3 years and have been generally crap for quite a long time...we absolutely qualify for assistance with a Casboult compo or end of first round priority pick like Brisbane got.

Essentially swapping Casboult for Hopper or kind of getting Hopper for free from a priority pick would obviously be amazing for Carlton and i don't think is unrealistic.

Wait, what?

Carlton made finals four out of five years prior to the current run of four years missing the finals. Gold Coast (six), St Kilda (five), Brisbane (eight) and Melbourne (11) have all been worse for longer.

You make a great point and hence why I get so frusterated when people say we have been rebuilding since 2006 or that we have been the least successful club in the past decade. It is rubbish.

For the record I don't think we deserve a priority pick. We are not in the current position because of misfortune. We are here because our previous recruiter couldn't recruit a blonde bombshell from a paddock of brunettes if his life depended on it. Plus the shame and stigma of getting handouts from the AFL is unbearable. We are on the right track and will be able to build a solid core without AFL charity, including getting Hopper if he nominates us

Yes and brisbane and Melbourne have both received assistance.

GC have been poor but not bottom of the table poor and I think the consensus is it's more a culture and coaches issue...hence afl appointed mark Evans there to help them and no doubt will provide guidance with their next coach.

St kildas first year or so out of finals they still finished mid table, went down to last then been steadily improving finishing mid table past year and this year.

We on the other hand might finish last 2 out of 3 years and our win loss ratio over last 4 years isn't pretty.

All I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised to see us receive some sort of assistance either by an improved casboult compensation or end of first round priority pick.

Hopper is worth a first round pick. Somewhere around pick 12-14 would be fair in my eyes.

Yep, at worst. I'd be happy to hand over our first for him easily without any thinking.

I would happily pay overs as we desperately need his exact type.

It's be interesting to see who offers him what personal terms.

Between future pick trading and GWS being willing to package player and lower pick for a higher pick, there's plenty of room for a deal on the club to club side.

Your first would be around the mark and would be pretty fair, although not sure GWS would want to waste all week negotiating.

Yeah we take too long, I can see that now, sometimes the best deal possible isn't worth the Energy, If Hopper agrees to come to us offer our first and be done with it.

Sometimes it's best to accept fraction under to just get it done. I mean we accepted a royal pasting from the Mitchell trade, but then again I don't regret it and I'm happy the club just got it done.

It'll hang off the Kelly deal. That domino determines how much money GWS has for second-tier players.

The more Kelly goes on the more I feel he will stay at GWS. Can see him signing a 2 year deal. He will still get $1 million plus a year in 2 years time!

When an offer like this comes around you take it. Opportunity to set yourself up for life.

What's to say he doesn't get badly injured next year? Or his form drops? Or clubs just don't want to pay ridiculous amounts for players. All circumstantial, but all possible.

If the offers thrown around are correct, I'd be choosing the best club moving forward and take the offer to the bank.

The pro clubs just get it done..

A lot of people on this thread are rating him very highly. He just reminds me of a Josh Caddy type, who is not elite, but rather just a solid player. I'd say his is value is around the pick 15-24 range. I don't think he has that breakaway pace, nor does he have a damaging kick on him; but nonetheless, he is not slow and his kicking is still good. I am sure he can improve as he get's older, and he has good size; I think he could be traded in the 15-24 range.
