Can't remember us ever trading with this little SA regional club before. They'd be wise not to stuff us around, or we will play hardball. Jacob's is a 15 to 20 pick quality. No doubt there's been unofficial negotiations already. If they get silly, he'll go to the PSD for the Tiges. Easy.

It'll be interesting which way they go in the trade talks, whether they ask for picks or go for a player.

You are really starting to annoy me of by repeatedly calling Adelaide a 'lil regional club' REPEATEDLY! Adelaide has more members than Carlton! Your President is South Australian.

I've lived in the Melbourne CBD and loved the lifestyle, but I love Adelaide just as much.

Oh and Andrew Eccles says hi.

Dude, it's parrot...don't even bother.

Surely the fact that they've announced this prior to trade week means that the framework of a deal is already in place? Why would we undermine our bargaining position otherwise?

2 bloody good points. :thumbsu:

have heard a rumour that we are keen on sellar which made me sick tbh i would love for us to nick Talia which may have been made easier wuth the emergance of phil davis. second for mine would be mckernan (how ever you spell it) both these deals would possibly have to be sweatened but those should be our prime targets

Thats what i would think to, i just didnt read it that way from the article posted on the carlton web-site, but then again they dont wanna give away to much. Icke has just basically said were disappointed and we'll start talking to adelaide

None of you should be suprised ;).
Nah , jokes aside the source for Sauce got it half right in the fact he was returning to SA.

Let the barganing being.
BiB I'm not surprised, just disappointed.

Not really sure that we've got much bargaining power tbh. I don't think we are going to be stupid and let him go in the PSD for nothing like PA did with Nick Stevens. Therefore, we will be probably be forced to accept what Adelaide think is fair.

It might've helped Carlton Sammy if you didn't declare Adelaide as your preferred choice as it might've given Carlton some bargaining power and improve Adelaide's offer.:(

Deadly serious actually . There has to be a line in the sand with these out-of-contract trades. If the trade is insulting, we shouldn't take it. We've put in 3 solid years of development into Jacobs, and they'll need to compensate something sensible. He's 15 to 20 pick quality. A young, ready made ruck with a heap of upside. You won't find many of these during trade week.

:)

Good luck for the future Sam, thanks for the memories. Let's now move on and focus on the players who will be around next year.

What is the point of letting Jacobs go for nothing in the PSD??

Although it was great that Port Adelaide let Nick Stevens go in PSD what did they get for all the time and effort they put into Stevens - zip.

That is only because Stevo wanted to go to Collingwood & Mark Williams would NOT deal with Collingwood, hence why he went into the PSD & we got him for nothing.

adelaide's compo pick will be around pick 20-26 theres no way in the world you could let him go into the psd just to go up 6-10 places. you know that crowas know that & jacobs knows that. it will get done & its a fair result

The art of negotiation in any realm is all about leverage - either perceived or real. At this stage, the only leverage we have in this trade is the threat of the PSD. If we don't use that threat, then the Crows could give us a 6th round draft pick for Jacobs and that'll be it. Ultimately it'll be up to the Crows to guess how far they can push us. There'll be a point where we'll say no deal. I'm just hoping that threshold is lower rather than higher.

Even though I don't want Walker to go, I suspect he'll be used to gain leverage in the Jacobs trade.

Swan's pretty much the master of orchestrating leverage out of nothing. He did it with the Fev trade last year. It's going to be a VERY interesting trade week. These are times when you want Greg Swan in your corner.

:)

That's what parrot is suggesting - if the trade is inferior and insulting we should NOT deal with Adelaide and just let Jacobs go in the PSD for nothing.

Agreed but I would rather we can get a deal done with Adelaide than seeing Sauce go into the PSD.

He will end up at Richmond if that is the case & I couldn't bare seeing him playing for the Punt Rd Ferals

Very disappointed that he has requested to be traded, but I can understand his reasoning as he more than likely feels that he would have limited opportunity with us.

I will be following his career & I wish him all the best for the future.

I agree. I think we lost leverage when Jacobs declared Adelaide as his preferred destination. It would have been better if had both Port Adelaide and Adelaide fighting over Jacobs.

Somehow I don't think the threat of the PSD is that strong or would be used by Carlton as it would be a bigger loss for Carlton (to gain nothing and lose a player like Jacobs) and just a missed opportunity for Adelaide (who could look at other ruck options with their trade offer). There would only be one winner in this scenario WCE or Richmond or $uns.

Throwing Walker into the mix helps a bit but I still think Adelaide has the upper hand.

But it's not as black and white as that. Look, I doubt it'll get to that point, but you just have to draw a line in the sand with these out-of-contract trade negotiations, otherwise you'll get a worthless late pick, and be shown to be weak.

The Port/Collingwood/Stevens situation was a bit different. In that case the Clubs basically hated each other with a passion. Eddie and Williams were having a feud at the time, and the Pies negotiators just don't know how to negotiate. I still don't think Port regret not getting compensation from the Pies, because they just hated Collingwood so much.

We don't have any such history with this SA Crows Football Club. Hopefully something reasonable will be offered, but we should walk away from something silly like a late 2nd round/3rd round pick.

:)
