Can’t think of many players getting picked up from 3rd divvy local leagues by AFL clubs, but this is unique in that he has already played at the highest level.

I know in the past when there were players who played in a similar standard league and were on the radar of AFL clubs, that the club scouts would queitly ask them to go to a higher division club to get a better gauge.

I thought if you retired you had to wait a certain number of years before you could come back (to prevent players "retiring" to get out of their contract).

If he was out of contract and not offered a new one by North Melbourne maybe he is actually considered delisted and North can't really be upset if they didn't even want him.

We need depth only because our injury list is always astronomical. Pre season train-on is a possibility if he has kept himself in good shape. Don't think he is a list clogger like Petruccele.

That would actually fit the criteria as restraint of trade

What retiring does do is reset the clock on any free agency rights. You can still be traded after retiring in the same off-season (Luke Hodge example), but after that he’d have to be drafted fresh or signed via SSP if he goes undrafted (like Shane Mumford and Zac Clarke).

I think retirement also concludes your AFL player registration, whereas delisting only detangles you from the club. So he’d have to re-register I guess.
