My thinking would be that Carlisle's manager knew about it, but Essendon probably didn't. If Essendon did know, they would hardly have waited till the eleventh hour to complete a trade. Would have been done for unders at the very start.

There was the whole Dutch auction with Hawthorn that delayed things further. That and Dodoro (rightly) needed to be upfront about Carlisle's expected value in a trade in order to get the best possible result for his club..

Good point. And with paperwork for the trade not being final till 2pm today there's probably every opportunity there for the Saints to walk away from this whole thing.

That said, the reality is that half the players in the league are on the gear this time of year. They're guys in their mid 20's with massive disposable incomes. They go to Vegas to get cheap bags of coke, hookers and gamble money. No AFL players are going to Vegas to see a $50 steak n show startting Tina Turner.

I expect nothing to be done about this. Will just highlight to the Saints that they need to have a chat to Jake, no more taking video of his partying antics.

The best thing thats happened for a saints point of view is that he got caught. He will be super motivated to repair any damage he has caused. Saints may have now got the benefit of a good, really good player that most likely will play out of his skin.

The thing I'm struggling with most is how the hell a professional PR firm thinks that logo is ok, baffling.....

His manager must have just about had kittens when this was dumped in his lap.
He could have told everyone and unhinged the deal. Some would see this as the correct thing to do.
In the end he decided on a course of action that was best for his client, at cost of his own integrity.
Then again its always easier to do nothing.

If Essendon and Carlisle's manager both knew about this prior to the trade being completed, there is still ample time for the AFL to strip Essendon of all draft picks gained from the trade and to also strip the manager of accreditation. That sort of behaviour, if proven, is as unacceptable as it gets.
