I think this warped idea that a key forward needs to be some 195cm+ freakishly athletic beast is good in theory, but falls down somewhat in practice. Buddy Franklin's don't grow on trees. The facts are some of the best key position forwards currently and of recent times have just not fit that bill. Natural football ability and goal sense will always win out, which stringer has in spades.

Jay Schulz 193cm
Taylor Walker 192cm
Jarryd Roughead 193cm
Nick Riewoldt 193cm
Jack Gunston 193cm
Josh Kennedy 194cm
Matthew Pavlich 192cm

And IMO his most apt comparison (just on-field hopefully for all Bulldogs fans sake) is Brendan Fevola who at 191cm was one of the best and most commanding Full Forwards of recent times. Stringer is listed at 192cm and if you listen to some bulldogs fans they suggest he's a bit taller still.

Taking all this into account and the fact he's built like a Full Forward already at age 20, its silly to say he's to short and not athletic enough to succeed as a key forward. Especially considering barring endurance (which you'd expect him to build over the coming years) he'd be equal or superior to all of the above players athleticism wise, except maybe Roughead.
dont know whick kennedy your talking bout but the one from the eagles is 196cm. Also alot of club sites actually dont really update heights that often and certain players do have little spurts around 18-20. Like tex is no way 192cm and both roughy and roo would be a bit taller than that now.

As far as the actual thread goes, this guy could be anything really. Strong, smart, bit of toe and genuine X factor. Imagine if he hadn't broken his leg. May have gone even higher in the draft
Nah, we're happy he broke it. If he hadn't, he'd likely have gone before our pick.

Good. The Dogs have struggled for decades on and off field. Would be nice to see them make the finals consistently again. Stringer and Bont may be what will keep the Dogs from folding. :thumbsu:
The dogs havnt struggled on the field. Regularly made finals in the 90s and then had a very strong team again from 2007 to 2011 where with a bit of luck could have given the flag a real shake. Richmond, demons and blues are the strugglers.

Little Libba will will a Brownlow within the nest 3 years. People forget just how good he was before doing the knee. Watching the way he moves through traffic, I'm convinced he will be one of the elite players this year.

Great start to the season by Jake. Showing the potential I always knew he had in him. Lots thought I was over hyping at the time. Robbo has jumped on board naming in 10th hin the top 50 players. He still has massive up side and confident he'll make last season look average the way he has started.

Thread is a good read from the start.

Is that right?

Wowie....
It's not that big a statement Dan.

Think about it like draft time where basically every midfielder is described as "plays like xxxx"

Stringer plays like Ablett Snr

No one will ever pass the great one and no one has ever said that. His style is looking more and more like Ablett senior each week. There has been plenty in the media that have also stated that.
Just needs to be more dominant in the air, but his aerial game is improving though

How good was that soccer goal though, he makes the contest, doesn't lose his feet then boom, just like Robert Lewandowski or something, through for a goal on the left peg. Most big guys would just lose their feet and go to ground trying to do the same. He's a freak.

You can't deny the fact he has some Ablett traits... I don't even think Ablett sr was this good at 21!!
Thats an interesting point.. and a correct one.. he wasnt as good at the same age, that twlls me when in 2 years time Stringer more than likely will be classed as almost the best player in the comp along side Bont, Cameron, hogan.
