Geelong has elevated midfielder James Parsons from the rookie list to the senior list.

Parsons, 20, was drafted by the Cats with pick 27 in the 2016 rookie draft.

A midfielder, he represented Vic Metro in the 2015 under-18 national championships.

After an injury interrupted start to his 2016 season with the Cats, Parsons came home with a wet sail, including 27 disposals, nine clearances and a goal against Werribee in round 15.

Parsons’ elevation is a result of Cory Gregson being placed on the long-term injury list.

Debut this weekend?
Occurred to me too. Generally speaking Geelong has only elevated rookies when they have been right on the cusp of senior selection, and the fact that they've done it on the day that the teams are announced suggests something.

He's probably just behind Menegola anyway in terms of our next-in-line midfielders, so given that GHS is a forced omission, it makes sense that they'd bring him in if they are looking to drop any of Lang, Cowan or Parfitt.

I hate to admit it, but I know very little about Parsons. As an admission of my own lack of knowledge, I have no idea whether he is considered 'inside' or 'outside'. I had him pegged early as a winger, but then didn't follow any of his progress. Anyone care to share some light?
Anyway, very exciting for the guy, and exciting for the club to have rookies breaking through to the senior list.

Would be great to see him debut hopefully he replaces Cowan. Would be little pressure to have more of an impact than Cowan.

From memory, he falls into the Wells spacial category of being more highly touted prior to his draft year, getting hurt and then falling.

He's got some skills this bloke...

Im not predicting which way this will go -Im just happy that he's fit, healthy and on the main list.

Whether that translates to this week - I dont think so - given the 8 weeks off for the busted peg and only getting one VFL preseason game back before this week. I dont want to see another Smedts undercooked game again.

REegardless, happy he's able to be selected.

Go Catters

Is he a Star Wars kind of player? Spacial? ;) I see if they have promoted him , considering there is no VFL this week , they must be thinking in the side.

He's an obvious talent with an exceptional foot but it's surprising considering the amount of VFL football he's played.

One would think he comes into the side in place of Parfitt. The latter will benefit from some VFL time himself.

Think Bairstow. A bit slimmer, a touch quicker. With better finishing skills.
Not inside grunt so much. But he likes working through congestion.

Boy I'm excited. Not many rookies make me prick my ears.

Personally dont think he is ready but obviously the club think he is close.

Sometimes players get a gig before they are ready.
Of the players in the VFL team that we have had a reasonable look at, Parsons is surely in the lead in terms of ability. He looked the "most likely" to succeed to me of all the players on the list who had not made their debut.
