We lost Nick Stevens our best midfielder in 2003 and still won the flag. We also lost Primus and Francou. That would be the equivalent of losing Ryder, Wines and Polec

I like you optimism, We also had both the Burgoyne brothers and Gavin Wanganeen just to name a few.

Polec is the midfielder we can least afford to lose as we don't have another play like him that can play his roll. unless there is another tall, fast, elite ball using highly capable contested possession winning midfielder that i'm unaware of ?

I'd prefer players motivated by success over money.

Finding this out just sums up the week we've had.
Well the last month, if the intent was to have our players stay for less 'for success', it's been selling them a shit sandwich. Whilst North and Saints aren't likely to do better, if his wife to be is really in his ear to go back to her home state, there are several clubs there that look closer to a flag then the Hinkley led Port he'd be playing under the next 3 or 4 years.

Nothing's confirmed either way.. apparently Polecs manager is still overseas. He's publicly stated he wants to stay. Have Port really said that they're not matching the offer and expect him to go?

Definitely all speculation at this stage, but if come the start of finals he hasn't signed then its time to be worried.

There is no one on our list who can play his role as well

Also don't forget he has had to play Hinkleyball ( Er no forwards to kick to when he has possession and don't forget to run back and be fullback often)

So if we are arguing over 150K per year difference ....why the gamble ? Maybe for that we will get two Amons ...maybe we will get two flashes in the pan ...ah what the hell pay the man...

Im really not bothered.

So you think replacing Polec in the side for a 1st year player or Karl Amon isnt bothering? My goodness.

If true this is a disaster. We should be in the frame for a premiership right now and trading a guy who is probably sitting top 2 in our best and fairest for a mid first round pick isn’t going to help.

$600k is less than 1/20 of the salary cap. Matthew Broadbent being a restricted free agent means he would be earning at least that next season. I’d be happy to pay the man if we could keep it to a 3 year deal.

Will earn $1M in his first year there the way they've done the contract.

That's just ridiculous.

Love him as a player but if the $750k over 5 years rumour is even remotely true, we'd be totally and completely irresponsible for matching it.

If he wants to go move him on, get some sort of compensation and give someone who wants to play for the club an opportunity.

I think the saints and north are the two front runners. I dare say we’d be looking at getting either sides first rounder.

If north - let’s say 10ish for Polec. I’d do that.
If saints - pick 5 for Polec + a second rounder.

Plenty of options with picks. Don’t crucify me for the the above. It would prob start around there.

I think rozee is the one we would want to replace Polec in the long term. Hel be there at 5-7 I reckon

What do you think he's worth Points wise - it seems pink 9/10ish is a rough guide. They seem to need points for Thomas. I don't know our needs, (ie how many picks we want ..but perhaps by giving them back some of our picks we could get hold of their second rounder as well). (based on this link: https://www.draftguru.com.au/years/2018/provisional-draft-order - I cant be bother checking how up to date it is, but it looks pretty close).

We seem to currently have: 12, 22, 30, 45, 48, 84
They have: 9, 27, 40, 53, 63, 81

If they give us just pick 9 for him, they end up down 1469 points
But if they give up 9 and 27 and we give back 45 and 48 it makes him worth about 1523 points

Given they will need to use 27 for points on Thomas, swapping it our for 45 and 48 still has them pretty much in the same position (well 50 pts behind - there may be some way we could sort that point gap out).

Ultimately if we could get to that position we are left with: 9, 12, 22, 27, 30. If we want 5 picks thats pretty reasonable, but again, if Sydney need points for Blakey they hold 11.

22 + 30 for 11 gains them with 145 extra points, and would leave us with 9, 11, 12, 27.

Perhaps Sydney and North then do a late swap to get a few extra points to North, ie:
Sydney swap 31 (606 pts) for 40 and 63 (541 points).

So Net result(if I've got this right):
We lose Polec, 22, 30, 45, 48 (2123 pts) and gain 9, 11, 27(3501 pts) (meaning Polec is valued between picks 10/11 to us (1378 pts)).
We go to the draft with 9, 11, 12, 27.

North lose 9, 27, 40, 63 (2713 pts) for Polec and 31, 45, 48 (1255 pts) (meaning Polec is valued between picks 9/10 to them (1458 pts)).

Sydney lose 11, 31 (1935 pts) and gain 22, 30, 40, 63 (2015 points) - a gain of 80 pts.

What part of there is a trade period to come are people not understanding?

Have read a little bit here and there in this thread. Can't work out why this is even being discussed at the moment.

Is there any real indication from anywhere that he is even considering leaving?, because I can't find anything.

The salary cap increased 20% this season. It will have increased another $1m or 8% in 4 years time. $750k is the old $600k.

In 2017 82 players earned more than $600k. Assuming our salary profile is similar to the rest of the league that would make Polec our 4-5th highest paid player. It’s not crazy when put in those terms, he’s already playing at that level.

I’m more concerned about 5 years than the dollar value.

$750 would still put him in the top 50 or so paid players in the comp.

0 x B&F

0 x AA

26 at the start of next season with a serious foot injury in his recent past that still needs to be carefully managed.

He's a very good player and very important to us but if we're going to throw around $750k/5 year contracts, there would be some very juicy options elsewhere in the league for that sort of coin.
