What part of there is a trade period to come are people not understanding?

And which uncontracted wingman of Polec's quality is available for us to replace him with? This isn't PlayStation.

If he leaves, best case scenario is probably that we get Aaron Hall who's been in and out of a bottom 4 side. Worst case scenario is we get nobody.

Having thought about it for a bit I’d be giving bonner a crack at it good kick, some run and carry, I’m still not convinced he’s a defender.

There's a soft underbelly and dare I say a Pittard-esque panic with Bonner you could be right.

Polec would be our best player in 2020

Maybe, maybe not

You aren't bothered about losing that player for what will be the value of a wingman like Motlop?

We will get something valuable for him
We have a trade period to come
We can absolutely improve our list from this

People are acting like this is peak Tredrea. Ridiculous.

Is it a loss? Yes. But as i said earlier, only if we let it.

$750 would still put him in the top 50 or so paid players in the comp.

0 x B&F

0 x AA

26 at the start of next season with a serious foot injury in his recent past that still needs to be carefully managed.

He's a very good player and very important to us but if we're going to throw around $750k/5 year contracts, there would be some very juicy options elsewhere in the league for that sort of coin.
I’m not sure 0 B&F’s is a strong argument given he is every chance to win one this year and as Schulzenfest mentioned above I am also very skeptical that a replacement will be so easily found for a 25 possession a game wingman with a penetrating left foot.

The Navicular could be a genuine concern but only the club would know (even North wouldn’t have a clue at this stage). In a week where Shaun Burgoyne just signed on to play a season aged 36 it would be a bold move to declare Polec crippled within 80 games.

Did we fundamentally improve our 2018 list over our 2017 list? Results so far say no. You have more faith in our list management guys and recruiters than me. But you have said many times you find draft day the most exciting part of the season, so I guess that's where your optimism comes from.

The only thing i see from this whole thing is Channel 7 news and adelaidenow peddling this shit..

Crows propaganda machines working overtime and all you guys are falling for it

Carn....

There are several reliable sources on this board who are singing a similar tune ...

I'll be filthy if we lose him in what should be a flag window year, but I'd be even more filthy if we made him one of our top few earners to match an outrageous offer from North.

This sucks, basically. I hate it.
Weird that Norfs offer is the only one publicly stating the $$$ amount

Chad Wingard is already better than him by a margin
In a lot of ways he is, but he isn't as consistent as Polec. Polec could easily overtake him over the next few years, and could EASILY end up with the better career.

Polec is also relegated to the wing and doesn't get the same chances as Wingard rightly or wrongly.

I just see the years being the problem and what's holding port back.
The injury is always a concern. Will his speed and foot hold out till hes 30?
As much as I hate to lose him, I think I'd prefer to let him walk as opposed to signing him up for 5 or 6 years.
Who can blame the guy to? If it was my brother I'd tell him to take the money and job security. Players arent around long, take it while you can.
And on ports side, this year isnt a bad year to move someone on. Another first rounder strengthens our draft hand. Get in the ear of gc etc
Might land rankine. Chuck a few $$ at lycett.
Effectively lose polec but gain rankine and lycett from it.... could turn to be a win for us and a win for polly

Polec has repeatedly declared a preference to stay at Alberton, telling The Advertiser last month: “I love Port Adelaide. I’ve always been a Port Adelaide fan. Hopefully, something will get done (before the finals).”

Polec hasn't gone anywhere yet and in the off chance he does it will cost North Melbourne their first round pick.

$750K p.a. didn't come from North. It came from the television.

Mail here is it is 6 x $600K with$1 million front loaded (then 5 x $500K).

The front loading aspect and length of contract is clearly the hurdle Port & other clubs have to overcome.

Yeah regardless of what's true or not here I trust channel 7 reporting about as much as I trust tarot cards.

If we were offering 500/year we are undervaluing him. If he has issues with Voss then we need to deal with that.

He's doing the smart thing and entertaining an offer on the table so he actually gets what he deserves at Port.

I hope he gets more and stays, we are ****ed without him. We have the second biggest salary cap space in the AFL and an awful drafting hand but can't bump up an offer for a required player?

Money sounds like no problem, would pay him 600k a year in a heartbeat but 6 years is something we can't get close to due to his foot.

3 years max for mine.

There is a number of risks, We let Polec go and it could be a Shaun Burgoyne situation that bites us on the arse.

If we keep him on a long term deal and he ends up being crap or cooked it could hurt us like when we re-signed Matthew Lobbe.

I'm sceptical about how he'll perform with a nice big contract behind him instead of hitting form when its negotiation time.

Also, Chad can kick on both feet. That certainly helps in impacting more contests.

We did improve our list. And then recontracted our coaches.
