Bit of reading there if you're not up to date on how good shulz is.

I know all of us are still not over the whole richard tambling thing. Im also finding this hard to get over too. Shulz looks like hes gonna take the coleman and would slot perfectly into our forward line (or any teams). But he used to be such a spud.

My question is, will vickery go the same way as shulz? I honestly see him being traded soon if he doesnt pick up his game (which i dont think he will). But i honestly think he has potential to be a really good froward, and we have seen glimmers of this. Im afraid hes gonna be moved on and turn into a superstar.

Do you think he will be a potato for life? or will we be left wanting yet again like Adelaide fans and jack gunston?

There is one thing Jay has always had and oodles of it aside from being a great natural talent and that is absurd courage.
Not saying Ty is a squib or anything like that I just think that Schulz has an insane appetite to win the footy that Tyrone does not seem to possess.
I'd also say it's fair to say that when it comes to natural footy stuff like positioning, ball handling etc Schulz plays him on a break.
I dont think anyone is surprised at how good a player he has become it's just that it was frustrating knowing it would be elsewhere.
On the other hand if Vickery were to continue to stagnate and then go elsewhere and suddenly become a player I'd be surprised.

I would also be surprised if Vickery made it as a good player with another club. Still cant believe how much of a fan base that he still has at Richmond. Been clear for awhile that he would not and will not make it as a player. I guess i am the only one that might think that ;)

This^

Yer you are, but that's alright because he kinda is a bit of a squib.

Even the article said Schulz was underwhelming at Richmond with an output of 0.8 goals per game. Vickery is currently sitting at 1.08 per game so slightly better. Schulz did play7 a bit of CHB while with Richmond but I think Richmond got all they could out of him.
Anyway, right now, I would prefer a 22 and 24 year old (Griffiths and Vickery) to a 29 year old (Schulz)

Obvious couple to compare. 2 Richmond KPPs with obvious talent that they just don't consistently show. Schulz had more obvious freak show talent, TV IMHO more regularly does a good job. But both in their early 20s have been/are inconsistent and frustrating.

The big difference to me is that Schulz played with Richo and in a club with no development ability. TV has more opportunity to play an important role. I regularly see TV doing very well, and even more regularly don't see him doing things well. For TV (IMHO once again) it is just a matter of turning his good stuff into his regular play. Schulz was totally a flash of brilliance player. He'd turn it on and then do nothing for ages. Schulz needed to learn how to actually apply himself in the game. He had to move clubs and then take a few years to learn to do that. He had to become a fully mature player to be able to harness his talent.

TV is what we have right now. When he plays well he crashes packs, uses his size and athleticism to produce pressure and gets in people's faces. But he is on and off. So we know he can produce, and thus we have something AFL quality to work with. Whether it is just mental, or maturity or physical or smarts or game plan, or coaching I don't know. But guys like that are hard to find and can be worth gold when they get going. To me add a couple of kilos and get his fitness up, then run him around the ground. He is too good to quite on, and we don't have obvious replacements.

Before you say anything, Griff can be very good. But needs to work on it as well. Great set of skills and maybe playing a season of AFL KPF will teach him what to do to become the real deal. But right now he is not a good AFL KPF. If Griff can come good he adds hugely to our team, as does a good TV. Both would be amazing. These sort of guys can come good, and it is up to the club and the individuals to work on it.

We only get fruistrated with them because they have talent. If they were VFL muppets people wouldn't care. The typical over reaction is to say ' he's a dud, get rid of him before the world collapses in on us in a rain of heavenly fire!!!'. Not, 'let's work on developing the talent we have and accept that some guys take longer than others to learn to be good consistent AFL players, especially KPFs'.

As RD has already stated that Schulz has bucket loads of courage, and frankly I'm surprised he hasn't ruptured a spleen or torn a tendon taking a pack mark! In this regard I really cant see Ty following in his footsteps, his focus appears to be elsewhere (maybe content on completing his law degree and opening up practice in St Andrews, I dunno) These two guys are chalk and cheese by comparison.

But I get what your saying that he suddenly turns the corner at a new club. It can only happen to us.

Wallace wasted Schulz by not working out how to fit him and Richo into the one forward line and therefore then trying to turn him into a centre half back.
I liked Sarge then and I like him now.
Vickery and Griff need to be sat down and shown tapes of Schulz showing his work rate, effort, repeat leading and crashing of contests.

I still have faith in Vickery and Griffiths - I think we just need to get a proper forward coach in to work with them though. Not a fan of his but Brereton would be a good get. Maybe even Browny now he has retired?
