Noticed he has been taking plenty of wickets at Shield level and is now the leading wicket taker (probably due to Cutting playing for Aus A) with 26 at an average of 27.23.

With all the talk about Australia's up and coming fast bowlers in Cummins, Cutting, Starc etc. I think Herrick may have flown under the radar.

I haven't seen him play live personally, but for those who have is there any chance of a Test berth this Summer or in the near future if he keeps taking wickets?

Have only seen him once and that was in the lastest Ryobi cup match V Tasmania and even though he took around 4 wickets he was bowling way to short to often. Don't know if that was a once off or if its how he bowls but going by that i would say no.

Cheers mate. I can only speak from stats but from what I've read he seems to be an expensive bowler too.

Have been interested with herrick this year and seems to have a good knack for getting wickets as his record suggests. But he goes for alot of runs in both 50 over game and 4 day cricket. If he can get the run rate down and keep getting wickets then could be a chance in a year or 2. Still a LONG way behind the next line of bowlers (Cummins, Pattinson, Cutting, Starc, Hazlewood ect).

Be good to have him in there though, looks a character with those tatts on his elbows, skin head and headband and awesome Mo for Movember.

I've watched a bit of him and tbh I don't know how he manages to get all his wickets. Doesn't noticeably swing or seam the ball too much, and isn't quick by any means. As has already been mentioned, he goes for a few as well. The important thing though, is that despite all this, he still manages to take them (which is a very important trait to have if you're a bowler!). He's currently 26 so it will be interesting to see how his bowling develops, but I wouldn't have him down for Australia in the future simply given the presence of guys like Cutting, Cummings, Pattinson and Hazlewood.

Can't see him playing for Australia, which (quite rightly) has gone for a generational change in its fast bowling stocks, with Harris, Siddle and Johnson (yech) to provide "experience" and "leadership".

At 26, Herrick doesn't stand out sufficiently (apart from the 1980s sweatband around the forehead look) to leapfrog the likes of Cutting, Pattinson, Starc, Copeland, etc.

Herrick is probably being undersold a little on this thread.

He's got his wickets by being disciplined to the plan he's bowling to, having had good fields to back him up and he's bowled to them, he attacks the body or the area around the stumps pitching up, he attacks the game. He's not slow, not Brett Lee pace. He has had a few bowler friendly tracks to inflate his stats a little but he is bowling very well.

I think though with a lack of tricks he could be quire benign on flatter pitches nor gets the swing for Eng/NZ. But worth keeping an eye on him.

Not suited to the shorter versions of the game at this stage, but has shown a bit at Shield level both this season & late last season.

As CAS79 stated, he does bowl to a plan & keeps the pressure on the batsmen in the longer version of the game.

I've noticed his name a bit too - never seen him bowl.

The fact is, he's there to take wickets - and he's taken as many as anyone in the comp.
Yes, he seems a bit expensive.
Dunno - is it a fluke? Are his wickets top-order blokes caught in the slips? Or tailenders having a slog?

I have watch herrick he does bowl with pace 140 plus and does swing the ball both ways more with the older ball and if you look at the wickets this year he has a lot of LBW or bowled and the wickets he has taken are top to mid order not much of the tail. where can i get a herrick headband

Come on people...

Herrick is WAY to much of an individual and has too much personality to be in the Australian team. No way the selectors will pick a guy with a shaved head, headband and tatts.

Needs to grow the hair out and put blonde tips in it, get a diamond stud ear-ring, and find some underwear model to hang off his arm. THEN he'll be a chance!

Saw him play when Vic played England a couple years back. Bowled pure tripe. Do not rate as a bowler. Far to short against Tassie the other night. But I suppose I can't argue with his stats. Or it shows we haven't got many batters at state level.

Quality international batsmen would plaster him bowling that length at his pace.

He looks to be a handy type. Don't know if he will ever play for Australia but, with Clint McKay and Ben Hilfenhaus he is in the next rung and if he keeps on taking wickets he will certainly get spoken about depending on how everyone else goes. I don't think Ryan Harris expected to play for Australia when he was Herrick's age so, who knows. we are also in a rebuilding stage so, i doubt he will play for Australia. It's still good to see players like him getting picked for Victoria, it's a fair effort to represent your state.

I always prefer to make the middle aged players (in cricketing terms - 25-30) have a couple of good seasons before they get a look in. That way it's easier to see if they are legitimate lateish bloomers or just having a flukey season.

Of course, I'd like to extend that policy to everyone, but you can understand why they put in a 20 year old who comes out and dominates in his first season over a 26 year old who all of a sudden starts dominating.
