Jesse Hogan Contract Negotiations (Titus O'Reilly)

Neale is a great little player.
But if Matthew Pavlich has proven anything it's that players of his ilk are as scarce as rocking horse shit.

I have "anyone but Fyfe" on the clipboard for a Hogan trade...
If fyfe not captain next year , I think he is gone.

You would think Fyfe and Bennell were the only untouchables in a Hogan trade.

Fyfe is the only untouchable imo. As it stands, he is the king atop the Fremantle brand. Fyfe for Hogan would realistically be a fair trade, but if Hogan became plagued by injury for example and we essentially got rid of Fyfe for nothing then the administration would be shot.
It's just too damn risky.

This speculation doesn't matter much anyway. I really really can't see Jesse leaving Melbourne, let alone us having enough currency to somehow conjure up even a halfway fair deal.
We've been spoilt as it is from getting Harley for a packet of peanuts, and McCarthy, should that eventuate.

..... You never know though.....

And you would he laughed at.
Yeah, I know. I think with the way he plays, though, and his dodgy back, we might only have another four good years of Nat. For mine, there's enough talent being developed in the midfield that while won't fill his sizeable hole (you read that right), will lessen the impact of his loss on team balance.

Hasn't Hogan already missed more games than Fyfe with a dodgy back.

Arriving at Melbourne via those GWS concessions, Hogan has already been traded once. I wonder how that would play into the psychology of a young player - whether it would make them feel like wanting to settle down in one spot and show loyalty to Melbourne for giving up early draft picks for him knowing that he was still a year away from playing, or does it make him feel a bit like a high priced commodity available to whoever has the cash.

Only way we'd trade Fyfe is if he wanted to go and I can see it happening because he's such an ambitious lad. I feel he has the personalty that would love to increase his brand and his popularity by moving to Melbourne.

That said, I feel it's more likely he'll stay. He will be our captain in two years and I see us still contending then.

Other than putting Fyfe on the table I can't see a deal getting done.

I feel our best chance of getting Jesse will be in 4-5 years time when he becomes a FA.

By then Mundy, Sandi, and Johnno retiring would have freed up the sapce we need.

In the meantime we will have to make do with Cam and Hooker.

I think Hogan is a restricted free agent in 2020.

FA rules will most likely change to be less than 8 years before then, they'll most likely shorten to 6 years in the next 12-18 months or so, by the sounds of things.

They cynic in me believes the AFLPA was pushing for reduced time to qualify for free agency so that when the AFL come to the table with twice as much money, the AFLPA can say: "ok, we will stick at 8 years but you up the salary cap by 50% over the next five years".

If that does happen it will make the likes of Hogan and Fyfe able to ask for an extra million a year on their contract without too much rocking of the boat.

Come on meima this bloke said during his brownlow speech "I live and die for the Fremantle Dockers. I'd do anything for them."

He will be in purple for life.
I thought being captain for freo is negotiable , if he is so unpopular with player and the coach why stay on. Whereelse Melbourne, GWS,calton , bulldog can offer him captaincy and money .

Weird I having the same though , fyfe can be replaceable if we can't give him the captaincy where Melbourne can.

Who said he is unpopular? I haven't heard or read anything that implies that he is unpopular.

Fyfe will be captain. Mundy is the caretaker captain while Fyfe matures.

I think Freo really only trade players out when they want to leave. When was the last time we traded a player that wanted to stay (or hadn't indicated they wanted to leave)?
So short of Fyfe, Neale, Bennell or another player that breaks out this year (like a Weller) wanting to leave, we won't trade as I doubt even 2 x 1st round picks would get it done.
