Genuine question and excuse my ignorance, but how many aboriginal captain's of a club has there been? who was the latest? McLeod? was he even captain? Wanganeen??
Don't know if it's a complete list but:

Graham (Polly) Farmer captained Geelong 1965-67.
Gavin Wanganeen captained Port 1997-2000.
Michael Long was caretaker captain of Essendon 1999 (Hird played only two games due to stress fractures).
Chris Johnson was co-captain of Brisbane 2007.
Adam Goodes was co-captain of Sydney 2009-12.

If you want to widen the scope a bit, Maurice Rioli captained the WA SOO team in the mid 80's at some point.

Brian Peake captained WA in 1986 in what is regarded as the greatest game of AFL football ever played.
Peake was non indigenous but many mistakenly thought he was.

Maurice Rioli captained WA in 1987.

So much unknown, but we won't be putting Fyfe up for trade at the end of next year unless we spiral out of control and the rumours prove fact. He is naturally going to be our captain after Mundy, although I wouldn't be against Walters being thrown into the mix here and for Fremantle to become a destination club for young aboriginal players.

Sonny is not even in the leadership group further proving the ridiculousness of the whole concept. Hey dickheads at Freo, the leaders of the club should be the actual leaders not the winners of a popularity contest.

There will be a changing of the guard.
Mundy
Spurr
Fyfe
Walters
Neale
Sheridan

Sheridan is a curve ball but he's been doing many interviews recently. So just my own observations.

Agree with Walters and Neale but Sandilands will keep his leadership spot so Sheridan out IMO.

Preface: I love Aaron;
I think this year has pretty clearly shown the liability of having older players on leadership group. cannot afford to have a 34 year old bloke who played barely 4 games this year on in our leadership group next year.

Agree time for sandi to concentrate on his ruck and mark more ball when move to forward .

Agree with everyone except Sheridan. Not really leadership material. Don't think he's ever really lifted himself to help the team win a game. If i could, I'd have Barlow in the leadership group and I'm kinda baffled why he never was. But obviously this probably will never happen now.

Yep, I mean Sheridan might be battling it out for best 22 next year, but I've really noticed he's done quite a few interviews this year.

Id like this for 2017 then a younger captain, and 1 leader for each of the back line, forwards and mids. Hate when teams have too many years leaders. Fyfe, neale, Walters locks, unsure on Sheridan. Not sure who else in the back line could be the general there.
