We're pretty attached to campaigner round hereo_O;).

There's only one person in the AFL I refer to as campaigner

The fact that Hogan was 50/50 and still chose Melbourne for less money concerns me greatly. There needs to be a serious shake up / review of the recruiting team or approach because there is something clearly wrong.

If something were wrong then Neale, Langdon, Weller and whoever else wouldn't have re-signed.

You can't begrudge Hogan for re-signing with a club that's now showing plenty of spirit and improvement.

Besides, we know that every forward that has been linked to us and not signed has turned to shit (Cloke, Black, Schultz, etc). Expect Hogan to be out of the best 22 by mid year.

I wouldn't get worked up about it. He said he wants to be a one club player, a legend of the club. He has a good relationship with his coach. He's not married with children, so money isn't a pressing need in his life. Might be different if he was a campaigner but he's not. Which is why he said he would only want to play for Freo if he was in WA and that our form this year didn't bother him one bit.

It's hard to lure players away when they're established at clubs.

We're all happy every time one of our eastern states guys rejects overtures from home and re-signs, but then expect to be able to convince high profile targets to abandon their clubs whenever we want. It works both ways - is there something wrong with all the clubs over east who haven't been able to poach any of our talent?

Hogan has some good mates at Melbs in Petracca, Brayshaw and Watts. Clearly they are on the rise so I think it was probably more about Melborne than us.

Brad Hill is a contracted player and he had lunch or whatever with RTB.

I'm sure we had "ongoing discussions" with his management. Especially as Jason manages half our team (including Messers Fyfe and Hill)

Edit: Harry - not having a go, just pointing out the difference between players who are planning on moving clubs vs players who are kinda/sorta thinking about it.

That's true, however Brad Hill told his teammates of his desire to return home and they told him to have a word to Alistair Clarkson about it, so he did.

The media tried to make a song and dance out of it, but because Brad was open, honest and upfront about it, he was allowed to meet with Ross at Stephen's house with Hawthorns' blessing.

And that was because he had merely signalled his intentions as he was still contracted to the club and was happy to play out his contract with Hawthorn if a deal couldn't be done.

Whereas Cam McCarthy on the other hand.............

They could easily just be hipster navy socks with an anchor. I've got a couple of bits of clothing like that. But he does spend an inordinate amount of time with his mates back in WA. I think he'll probably come back at some stage, not sure when though
