Autopsy Jesse Hogan - Worth 220 Points

Hogan is a complex character who has endured a great deal. He is a senior character in the playing group by virtue of the central position he plays, but as he battles his issues he has not, according to those within the Dockers, been a destructive force that would prompt them to consider the idea they would rather not have him around. In fact, they aggressively state the opposite.

Eat a gigantic bag of dicks Hagdorn

Fair level of aggression in that article against the WA "radio commentator". Not naming Hagdorn or referring to him as a journalist was a deliberate act against his reporting of the issue at hand.

Should perhaps have highlighted Strike 2 where the suspension is made publicly. Did I miss that happening if he is apparently now on Strike 3?
Putting aside this situation with Jesse specifically and talking more generally; as Taylor said in another thread, the publicly bit on strike 2 or 3 can now be circumvented if "mental health issue". Hence the resulting cynicism over whether in a particular case, a club is using it as a loophole or in relation to a diagnosed mental health condition.

Personally, I think the publicity bit should be removed from the AFL drug penalties as I don't think it helps anyone anyway or changes behaviour, but also so as to avoid a potential 'greying' or continuing cynicism over the definition of "mental health issue" where a person with a professionally diagnosed mental health condition e.g. depression, clinical anxiety, is placed in the same bag as a young 20 something that's just hit the party scene too hard (like many their age) and been caught out and trying to avoid damage to their reputation.

Due to the above, in Jesse's case there will be many curious, quietly or otherwise, to see if Jesse makes it back after approx. 4 weeks, 12 weeks, or much longer or never from the time he stepped away.

The AFL policy says it has to be diagnosed (by an external doctor) to avoid a suspension (for strike 2 or 3). But obviously people will rebut with "it's easy to be diagnosed".

Also posters and the media keep referencing his car accident as evidence for ...

The pictures that were released in social media had ambulance and police in attendance. Having been in car accidents the first thing Police test for is alcohol and then drugs. There were heaps of people around and he was taken to hospital with absolutely no mention of drugs or alcohol. Just a silly mistake and an ego dent as described by J-Lo.
There was no police attendance at the accident.

He was tested at the hospital.
For concussion. No police involvement what so ever. Lucky for him.

Believe what you want. Head in the sand stuff is what got Cuz to where he is. I hope he was read the riot act behind closed doors.

Hogan is a quality player when fit so hope he gets back there.

One of my mates lives a few doors down from the accident and nobody in attendance said they thought alcohol was involved. Despite the media using words like 'flipped' he really just tipped his car on to its side. It was later reported he had been tested and there was no drugs or alcohol found in his system.

None of this means he hasn't engaged in recreational drugs or goes overboard with the booze often (highly likely he does). It just means people are barking up this tree thinking it proves something when it doesn't. There is plenty of other 'stuff' to support your pov, go use that instead - and somewhere other than here preferably.

Cuz was a father-son pickup at 17, we inherited Jesse with his assorted stuff. He’s a complex character, but shitting on him in public like crumpet did is a very low blow. The kid has lost his dad, had cancer and apparently his bro as well. Crumpet is CA0F8E2D-227C-41D9-8D03-920A8C1A35B1.gif

There’s 40 odd players a team times 18. That’s 720 players. If they test 2 blokes a day randomly that’s roughly once per year. Minus game day and training seshes etc the window to be tested is so much smaller and they logically can’t test them all.

Basically unless the player causes issues then the Saints don't really give a fu**.

I don’t have my head in the sand. I thought I saw police but whatever. I definitely read he was tested for drugs and alcohol and was clear. There just seems to be a certain assumptions thrown in that he was definitely on the gear that particular day.

A certain player from your club did much worse (involving his car and positive testing to alcohol) but was given much more lenient run from the media.

How many people do you know have tipped their car During the day.... seriously. Out of a millions of people in Perth the sober Hogan manages to clip a kerb and roll a car.... ? I’m gobsmacked.
The bloke needs help.
Reminds me of the Ben Cousins saga all over again.

You may need to narrow it down for us koops.
True - first name Liam is one that comes to mind.

Not a drunk Q Lynch who left his car running and tried to outrun the police dog squad in Manning.

And not my Colleague from high school running around on rooftops in Canning Vale, swimming across the Swan to the Blue Grill or washing windows at Canning Bridge.

Out of interest I did spot the old gang Gardiner, Cousins (aka Castaway) and co. hanging around the pool at Crown Towers a few weeks ago.
