Universal Love JESSE WHITE

Playing well as the 2nd tall forward... you know, where he has played his best footy before.

Don't upset the balance. 2 rucks, White as a true forward, Reid to defence.

Here's some replacement lyrics to that old Rick Springfield classic "Jessy's girl"

Jesse was a swan,
Yeah Jesse was a swan for a time.
But lately he's been runnin round in the black and white,
Jesse's landed at Pies and he's causing quite a fright.
And he's kicking a heap of goals...
He'll be causing defensive headaches I just know it...
He's on opposition coaches minds late late at night...

How they wish that they had
Jesse White,
Their wishing they had Jesse White,
Why can't they find a player like that?

Someone needs to make a full version and record that :)

I'm thinking its inevitable that once Reid is available one of Grundy or Witts will be "rested" leaving one ruck with White as a backup.
The Grundy/Witts combination has at least proven itself workable but I imagine that more marking power up forward would have the coaches wanting to trial the one ruck option.
It's comforting to know that White is a more than adequate back up ruck. It's strange that a guy who can play as an effective KPF with serious crumbing ability, speed and the ability to ruck wasn't in much higher demand.

The best thing about having a dangerous second tall forward is that Cloke has been able to get a lot more one on ones in the past two weeks as opposition teams start to respect White more. That helps the team as Cloke can then find some space and lead into it.....

My brother in law a crows supporter sent me a text last week saying how would white look at FF for the crows instead of J Pod Mckernan or Jenkins? The crows could have had him and the Tippett thing would never have came out. They would have kept their draft picks and no fine . But they thought they were so smart and now we have him and he is playing great. Go pies.

Has slotted in very nicely and playing some very good footy, kicking goals and proving a tough match up.

The one thing I keep laughing about after every game is that he's exactly the type of player that Carlton need yet they didn't even try and get him.

Can't wait till he smashes their piss weak backline next week.

We now have a proper two prong tall forward line, and soon will have a third (Reid).
I said this at the game today - how could those Carlton flogs not target him at trade time? Beggars belief!

Their loss is our gain. Not complaining. :thumbsu:

I have to say, he is a lot better as a pure key forward target than I had thought he'd be. On track to kick 40+ goals in 2014 at this rate. Who'd have tipped it?

I'm actually a little worried about how Reid changes up the structure. Presumably, Witts goes out and White second rucks. But I'm really liking the structure at the moment, Witts and Grundy compliment each other well, as do White and Cloke. Cloke is having issues, but structurally we are in a really good spot with regards to key forward targets.

Still not convinced about Witts - but agree he seems relevant structurally.

The best thing Witts has done is allow White to stick in the forward half. We look much better, and are winning with 2 genuine ruck men, so I hope we stick with it

I think Reid should play up front with Witts back to the 2s. Yes White's output as a forward would be reduced due to his work in the ruck, but Reid's output as a forward would far exceed what Witts can bring.

At the moment Brown, Keefe and Frosty provide adequate key defender coverage. I still think our forward line needs more potency.

Very pleased to see White continuing to flourish for us. I was a fan of his recruitment and I think he offers us a great deal given his mobility and his physical presence.

And they let Gunston go.

Alternatively, we could have a Centre Half Back AA play, well, Centre Half Back...
Just putting it out there.

It's a sign that the list is in pretty good shape when we can debate how best to utilise our KPP stocks. Does White play back up ruck? Which end will Reid play? Brown or Keefe to the VFL?
Meanwhile at Carlton a decade of heavy intake from the 1st round of the draft has somehow yielded a list devoid of any real key position talent.
Recruiting White was a great move no doubt, one of many. Dekka keeps getting the job done year after year even when he hasn't got the draft picks to work with.

According to Geoff Swann on a radio interview post trade period, the Blues were under salary-cap pressure and couldn,t entertain an offer for Whites services.
It makes me laugh that Carlton, with its current list, still couldn't come up with a offer for White, how could that team be cash-strapped.
Excellent pick-up for the pies, with his best just around the corner as he continues to develop his game

Was stoked when we picked him up as I always thought he had the ability to be a quality player.

His highlights package was impressive and I thought he showed some signs last year of really becoming more consistent and the penny had dropped.

Quite a few posters were saying he was a dumb footballer , hes not a great kick and that they would even prefer Lynch. This somewhat dimmed my expectations of him.

However , ever since Nab Cup Round 1 against the Cats , I just knew he would be a beauty.

Love his pace , pretty good kick and took some nice contested marks today.

Tough one when Reidy comes back. I think probably Witts makes way. He wasn't too bad today , had 6 tackles also. It's good he can give Grundy a decent chop out in the Ruck , much more so than a White could do.

It's a good position to be in with so many options at our disposal ;)
