Bartel so out of it post-match he didn't know why Selwood wasn't playing, had new boots which he didn't even recognise. Long odds next week?

It is concerning because he's now had a number of fairly serious concussions, and there is no doubt that they have a cumulative effect. I'm guessing he'll be out for at least a week, if not more. And I also wonder if he should even consider some head protection when he comes back.
First he knocks out Jimmy, hurts Vardy...oh well, I was fairly happy with his performance. Its not worth risking Jimmy, so they probably wont.
We are playing Adelaide at home which is a massive advantage already, and even if we dropped a game at this point we are still 2.5 games clear of the Blues in 3rd so would still snare 2nd.
Having said that, if Stokes and Corey go that is a whole new issue - god, they could get 5 each the way the MRP are hating on us at the moment.....
Its a possibility..... god, that would be the youngest list we have fielded in a long long time!!
Fingers crossed its not the case though.
Selwood's suspension is so costly now, because this current block of games would be the perfect time to give a week's rest to Bartel, Corey and Kelly. As it stands, we can probably afford to go in to next week without Bartel, but to lose two of Corey/Kelly/Stokes would stretch us. When we look at the reserves players to come in, well Christensen would be an obvious choice, except for the fact that he didn't play on the weekend (still haven't heard what's wrong with him), Byrnes will be in, no question. Then you'd think Cowan would be looked at as a possibility. And I think Brown will come in anyway, with our midfield robbing the forward line of some of its regulars. Assuming a worst case scenario (Bartel, Kelly, Corey, Stokes, Christensen and Milburn all out), the lineup would be something like this:
B: J. Hunt, Lonergan, Scarlett
HB: Mackie, Taylor, Enright
C: T. Hunt, Ling, Wojcinski
HF: Menzel, Vardy, Varcoe
F: Byrnes, Podsiadly, Chapman
R: Ottens, Johnson, Duncan
I/C: Cowan, Guthrie, Brown, Motlop
The acid must be put on Varcoe, telling him that he would have absolutely been dropped from the side, but they've got no-one else left. Hogan could be closer to a recall than we think.
Still, I think that side is good enough to beat Adelaide and I don't think we're going to lose all six of the players mentioned above, maybe 3-4.
We would most likely get smashed at stoppages though. I would hope that C. Scott puts numbers back and tries a game of attrition.
Not so sure about that. Sure, Scott Thompson is an absolute gun, but I don't think the Crows have got another midfielder who in 2011 could even be classified as 'above-average'.
Plays much more game time in the forward line....and is over-rated as a midfielder
Sloane is their best young mid
Josh Hunt out as well.
GEELONG has sent champion midfielder Jimmy Bartel to a brain specialist following his second serious concussion of the season.
Bartel was knocked out in a pre-season game and again on Saturday night against St Kilda.
The Cats are anxiously awaiting the results of yesterday's scans before making a decision on the Brownlow medallist's immediate playing future.
Bartel, who who was cleaned up by teammate James Podsiadly, was badly affected hours after the game and had no memory of his team's victory.
Bartel's troubles emerged on the day when the focus is on head injuries in the AFL as a result of the retirement of Adelaide defender Scott Stevens.
