I know what he referred to which is why I know that Sewell completely outperformed Bartel in the corresponding games.

clearly you didnt because you said missing a sitter doesnt equate to not scoring in a game.

the accusation of sewell was he missed two shots late, not that he didnt score.

bartel fluffs one shot from 45 out final minutes in rd 3 - non-clutch; sewell fluffs two shots final minutes in a GF - what a machine.

yeah, feel free to make up your mind on that one.

Very much the same thing. You either score a goal or you do not.

What is it that you don't understand? I spelled it out earlier, performance during a game doesn't equate just to scoring shots. Sewell was a dominant force in the midfield. Bartel was just trotting around in the midfield, having the kind of game Bryce Gibbs gets criticised for. The shot at goal being his only opportunity to impact the game.

Also when you make a lot of noise about Bartel being a clutch goal specialist, you set yourself up for this kind of ridicule when he misses gimmes like that.

Let alone his performance in the Elimination Final of that year, or other performances in close games in 2012.

lot of noise coming from you.

if you will gleefully call bartel 'non-clutch' for missing a 45 metre set shot in round 3, you cannot argue away sewell missing hawthorns final two shots for goal in a grand final as 'missing a shot doesnt really matter'. which is it?

apply it to both, or dont apply it at all. not just to bartel.

as for bartels 'trotting around' - you remember jimmys game from round 3 last year that well, do you?

EDIT: 22 disposals; 11 CP; 6 marks; 6 tackles; 4 1%s; 2 clangers... but yeah, the one chance to score was his only opportunity to impact.

even though scoring doesnt equate to impact right?

No he didn't lol. There was a headline that he played with a broken foot but all it was based on was Neil Balme's comment on SEN that he played with recurrent foot pain.
- ... He also has a healed foot, having spent from round six against Melbourne last season dealing with a navicular stress fracture. Not that he let on to teammates or the public just how much pain he was in.

- Bartel said it was the most frustrating injury of his career.
“I had a navicular stress fracture, which is probably the new hot injury in football,” he said.

What's with the false dichotomy? I already explained that:

a)missing a shot at goal does not equate to missing a sitter, and Bartel missed a sitter, both in terms of his recent goalkicking percentages and by the standards that Geelong supporters hold him to.

b)Sewell played a great game in the midfield and Bartel did not.

Put him in a Carlton jumper with the No.4 and they'd be howling for him to go back to the VFL.

nice dodge... you dont remember his game at all.

22 disposals; 11 CP; 6 marks; 6 tackles; 4 1%s; 2 clangers (both FAs, it seems)... but yeah, the one chance to score was his only opportunity to impact.

Jimmy Bartel was on 3aw sports today , this evening.

He accidentally threw out , in the recycling bin , his premiership medals and rings , after he had put them in a rubbish box after moving house recently.

They were found by staff at a recycling centre and returned to Jimmy.

Lucky or what.

Wasn't it Duncan,Caddy & Smedts [I think those 3] who threw the boxes out not knowing what was in them ?
Ling told the story on ch7 on saturday night.

9 kicks, 68% DE. 2 inside 50s. 1 rebound 50, 2 clearances.

That's about as vanilla as it gets.

Bartel is a good player. He has been really good in big games, but geez, people go on about him just a bit. He has many games where he doesn't do a whole lot, always does his job, but not exactly a superstar. Then he bobs up at crunch time in the last quarter, takes a mark and kicks a goal and off comes the lid: OHHH JIMMY YOU SUPERSTAR!!!

I think it's because of his good looks and people are secretly gay for him. Swap his head for LRTs and they'd probably be rated much differently.

...well on the form you have displayed here, I cant understand why you would be banned.

Because I agreed it was a free kick. NM fans can be ridiculously bias, this is well and truly noted on this forum...

Mitchell's game against the Cats was also better than Bartel's, your narrow minded view on games aside.

i thought mitchell was excellent, i have said so many times since. he was conspicuously absent in the final 15 considering he had been everywhere up until then, though.

im cherry picking to prove points like you did regarding bartels one missed shot, in a game you claimed to remember perfectly, which you actually didnt.

but please continue applying x to prove bartel is a spud, and arguing away x to prove sewell is a machine.

This wandering lifestyle has translated to his football in recent years with Bartel becoming Geelong's "Mr Everywhere" but it's come at a cost of sorts - not that he sees it that way.
Four years ago, Bartel wasn't just the best midfielder in the land, he was the best player.
His 2007 Brownlow Medal victory came on the back of a season in which he averaged 27 possessions per game and had 30-plus touches on 10 occasions.

This year Bartel is averaging 22 possessions and has gone over 30 only once.
In the stats obsessed world we now live in this is seen by many as a player in decline.

The reality is very different.

New Cats coach Chris Scott is one of many at Skilled Stadium who are bemused by the fact that the No. 3, as silly as it sounds, continues to be under-rated. While the All-Australian selectors couldn't find a spot for him in their squad of 40, Bartel is rated as one of four Cats who are neck and neck in the running for the club's best and fairest.

His career makeover to "Mr Everywhere" has been a gradual process, highlighted by his tagging role on St Kilda's Lenny Hayes in the 2009 Grand Final, which basically won Geelong the game.
In Saturday's preliminary final, you're likely to find Bartel start on a wing and then not stand in the same spot again for the next 120 minutes.

"When I started you strove to be an elite midfielder, but hopefully now I'm close to being an elite utility," Bartel says.

"It's not pigeon-holing you in one area, it allows you to stay in the game anywhere, anytime and that's something I've enjoyed.

"People ask, 'Why don't you just want to play midfield?' They don't believe it when I say it actually doesn't bother me as I'm not a person who goes and runs to see if I've got 30 possessions, I'd rather have 20 really good ones.

"I love to be in the game and what I've probably learnt is to keep yourself in the game no matter where you start.

"Plus, the game has changed and in games coaches just need to swing blokes around everywhere and I think a lot of our side swings around. I probably do it the most."

Bartel understands the changing of roles has its drawbacks in the world of public opinion, but that's not why he plays football.

"The by-product is the attention goes off you and the public think you're going crap," he says.
"We are in the world of SuperCoach and fantasy football, although people tell me I still do all right, but I know it's not going to get me All-Australians. That's just people not understanding the game, but the thing is if I can play anywhere and we still keep winning, I'll be happy.

"It's not something that I'm ever going to look back at (my career) and go, if I was a lot more selfish and played midfield I could have had a few more All-Australians under my belt."
