IMO Dunstan was always going to come good. We saw how good he was in his 1st year but then coped some debilitating injuries. When fit he dominates.

I'm still really not sure why people were prepared to cut Ross some slack (and we've seen how that's turned out) but didn't seem to want to give Luke the same time to get there before sticking the knives in. This applies to N Wright as well.

Today,

Steele was very impressive and Long for his first game was outstanding.

Steele, Long and Stevens have added some serious tackling muscle.

Acres is still getting there but did some nice things.

Lonie was better than last week (8:20 into the 1st, great commitment) but i still have him behind others for round 1

Gresh was relatively quiet by his standards but nonetheless was his usual classy self

Brown is exactly waht we needed for the backline

Paddy's roost from inside the square (unbelievable)

Not sure if Acres did much wrong myself. Played forward a fair bit (looked like he replaced Membrey) when Bruce and McCartin were rampant, spent more time in the middle, ended up with 15 possessions 100% eff. Seems OK to me. Must be a terrible burden to carry if you look "laconic" - automatically translates into not trying hard enough.

My apologies to Nathan Wright - I'd written him off but he keeps improving - up till half time I was going to say automatic starting 22 (defensive forward/goal kicker) however that No 21 looks a very likely type. Fanatical attack on the man and the ball reminds me of a certain saints player who was about the same size but with the same ferocious desire for the ball.

If Long turns out 1/4 as good as Cuz I'd be rapt.

Steele looked the goods and Koby Stevens adds necessary back up grunt power to our midfield.

My apologies also to Nathan Brown - starting 22
So what will be our starting 22
please change line up to what it think it will be.
I know Hickey or Longer will be a issue

LONGER STEELE BILLINGS

GEARY BROWN ROBERTSON

NEWNES CARLISLE SAVAGE

ROSS STEVEN REIWOLDT

K.STEVENS BRUCE WELLER

MEMBREY McCARTIN GRESHAM

DUNSTAN ACRES SINCLAIR WRIGHT ARMITAGE DEMPSTER WEBSTER

59 in a half from Long is pretty darn impressive.

Steele and Billings most impressive.

Sinclair and Lonie. Seems like so long ago that they were cemented in the 22 and while I think both were ok they need to be more than that.

Acres was good when he got it but 15 disposals isn't enough when he's clearly on the outer. Looks like another slow start to the year for him.....sigh.

Can't wait for next week to get an idea of what the round 1 team will look like.

Will be very hard to pick the team, who to leave out

Lovely day out at Princes Park. Significantly pleasing to destroy Carlton on their own ground albeit a very inexperienced and underdone Carlton team.

Bruce - outstanding, has his mojo back
Steele - very impressive certainly pushing for best 22 but plenty of competition for those mid spots
Lonie - worked his butt off, hassled the Carlton defenders with great effect
Long - nice half's work
Billings - plays the link player very, very well. I said it last week and I'll say it again. He's not showy in the same way that Steven, Gresham, (and Bont) are but when he gets the ball it moves it on quickly usually to a player in a better position.

Wouldn't say there were any bad performances today. Membrey perhaps one of the weaker players on much reduced game time. We moved the ball well again and got better with our delivery into the forwards a the game went on. Carlton were putrid.

That game was clearly planned by the AFL and Carlton to be a rally-call for the Carlton faithful. The Blues would have asked if they could get a game at their home ground to help with memberships, etc.

That makes the absolute shellacking we gave them all the more satisfying...

No surprise there, Steele has the potential to be an A grader but with so many gun youngsters at GWS he was pushed to the fringes like Bruce was.

Koby struggled to get a game for West Coast and the Bulldogs even when they were average so I don't know why we picked him up, waste of a list spot imo.

Stevens was easily best 22 at the Dogs. If he was fit he would have played in the GF over Dunkley for sure. Bevo didnt want to risk any of he, Jong or Suckling breaking down again though.

Impressive win today- for me of the players that came in today Webster was the one whom stood out. I love his hard edge and kicking would have him in front of Savage & McKenzie.
His kicking was actually off today, missed at least 3 kicks pretty badly, but like so many last week, he was probably rusty, so best to not take too much notice of them and focus more on his 22 disposals and so-on.

Him, Gilbo and D-Mac are prolly fighting for one spot, at most.

D-Mac still not getting his hands on it enough for mine and he continues to turn the ball over by foot on 15-20m passes.

Not fussed about individual performances.

Biggest take away from today would have to be our pressure inside 50.

These games are nothing more than fine tuning strategies under match conditions.

One of the things that really stood out for me, was the switch from last year of Bruce and Paddy. Bruce is so much more comfortable in and around goal where he can lead and double back.

Paddy today though was super impressive, especially after half time, with his capacity to push outside the 50m and take the important grab before forward entry. 12 marks outstanding and at a guess 6-7 inside 50's.

Long for mine takes the defensive forward position. Loved his second half. Credit to Wright, but when you have a kid who is that quick, takes a strong mark and beautiful skills - gets the nod for me.

Back six looking mighty fine.

Can't wait for season proper.

Long has to earn his stripes. One good half means nothing.

Wright can play at a level for the entire season. Long is nowhere near that, yet.
