Yeh, the Gold Coast would be really worried about the prospect of you guys taking Ablett.

He simply would not come over to WA and you'll have wasted a PSD and have a vacant list spot. You get that, Abletts stay together in Gold Coast (Nathan doesnt care he if plays AFL or not) and GC get Anthony. Not the best plan for Freo.

no wasted spot...just pick up a mature aged KKP rookie .
Honestly...2011 will be the hardest year to pick the best 22 in the Clubs History. We have too many good ones.. :p

I wonder how much negative Publicity Nathan, Gold Coast and Nathan's brother will Cop... from the big Stink from it all.. We've already taken a loss with the Tarrant Deal, surely common sense will let Anthony get to Freo.... GCS has had enough concessions...

HA  I've got it.

We might put it out there that if the GC Suns take Anthony, we will have to look at taking a player like Nathan before they take him with the rookie draft.

Gary A. might have something to say about that.:):) It would be a big Stink:spade: if Nathan refused to come here....I honestly don't think we desperately need another pick anyway. I think we will pick a new rookie KPP or two in the rookie draft with a couple of re-drafts..

Drafting out of spite? Yeah that'll win us a premiership.

Nathan Ablett? Yeah that'll win us a premiership.

I'd rather we redrafted Ryan Murphy than Nathan Ablett, and that's no compliment to Murph.

We don't want Murph or Nathan, but they still want to keep Gary happy, he is their golden goose. It's just a little "hands off" message. If they think we will follow through they might leave Anthony alone. But if they call the bluff, we still have to be prepared to back it up and upset their long term standing with Gary and his desire to play more footy with Nathan.

Just put it out there, and whatever happens, happens. We will have 3-4 guys capable of an upgrade from day 1 on the rookie list, so should be easy to cover if we carry 1 less on the main list. At the end of the day, can we select anybody else in the pre-season draft that would be a first 22 player, if not, why would we waste a spot?

No way Nathan would move, so selecting him just kills off his chances of playing again, upsetting his brother.

With the exception of those previously mentioned, (i.e. Neagle, N Ablett, and even Hanson) who else could we pick in the PSD if Anthony is gone?

God I wasn't suggesting we pick the crab up...i was pointing it out as it now gives them a pick in the PSD

Yeh... Sorry 'bout that.. Humour and sarcasm doesn't really come across very well in text format.

So, seriously... what other options are there if Anthony gets nabbed?

I'd prefer to read a write up of the traits & qualities of all those not drafted and a phantom rookie draft before deciding. :p

Edit: it really depends on what qualities Lloyd & Bond lock onto leading up to the Rookie Draft. It's probably safe to say they aren't looking for too many more undeveloped tall kids with superb skills.

Matt Little from Williamstown.

Otherwise plenty of talls overlooked.
Chalwell, Hamp, Menegola from WA alone.
Like the look of Jimm Savage from SA too

Plenty of people here were talking up Chalwell and Menegola before the ND. How many rookie list spots have we got to fill? I think it's only three if Sibo, Shep and Pearce are retained and if we keep Timmy then it is down to two. Buco would make it one, though I think he might be on the way out now.We might be able to snare a couple of potential KPFs through the rookie draft some people have already been considering as possibilities in the ND

You're allowed 8 rookies IIRC

Can someone clarify something for me? The PSD is for delisted AFL players right? That means we cannot pick up young kids in the PSD. Am I right?

You can take kids aswell.

Its just that mature age players prefer it because they have more certainty where they will go and can set their contract terms more easily.

no thats not correct. recycled players can nominate for both the normal draft (in ryan gamble adn dean polo's case) or the PSD (where we would pick up JA), but kids who are not picked up in the national draft automatically are nominated for the PSD where they can be placed on the main list. This occurred with robin nahas a couple of years ago. clubs like us though tend to not pick up youngsters, rather pick up a recycled player

Great - heres hoping GC pick up Jack and we get a young gun KPP to develop

The good thing is that just about all other picks before us (other than the GC) are locked in. The other clubs are choosing players that we really have no interest in.

If we get Anthony I think that he will play well for us. If not There is still a LOT of talented players out there like Anton Hamp. I would be happy either way, he may even slip through to our Rookie list!

You've said it well. :thumbsu:
