Another interesting and thoughtful article from Jols for your perusal.

AS I stare at the computer screen wondering what to write about this week, I'm thinking to myself there would be a few things I would love to say, but I know my honesty would get me into trouble. So there it is staring me in the face. The trouble with being honest.
I'm sure most readers and journalists will tell you that they are sick and tired of the drivel some players speak, the cliches, the boring, safe answers to the questions they are asked.
Every time we do a radio or TV interview or press conference we are briefed on what questions might be asked and what our responses should be, just to make sure that we don't cause any angst with other players or clubs.
If people want to hear honesty from players, we need to feel we won't be criticised or fined if we speak our minds.

Next time we s****** at the rubbish comments from interviewed players perhaps we may remember these sentiments and have a little sympathy for those caught in the cleft stick of honesty and loyalty.

Yeah it was an interesting piece by the big man.

Made me think about the segment he did on The Club recently where he was pretty candid about his and his family's reasons for moving back to Melbourne. He really seems to me to just be a down to earth bloke who isn't scared to speak his mind. To hear him speak openly about his wife suffering from post-natal depression as a major reason to move home to be with family, made me respect him a lot more for his openness and honesty, but also have a great deal of admiration, respect and well wished thoughts for his wife, who must have been a real strong person to let it be known in public.

More power to the big fella :)

Yeah, he makes a good point.

I wish Jolly would speak honestly and candidly about his own fitness.

Thanks for the link Jonb and I think when big Daz has finished his career he is going to wack a few people with a bloody big stick in his book and good on him too,I thought he was attacked unfairly over his remarks about his former coaches.

I do not think he plays the man in any of his comments and none of them seem unduly harsh but he obviously feels constrained in his comments and will right this after his career is over,he writes in an engaging way IMO.

Agreed ippy he certainly gives lie to the old misconception of a big ruckman being a knuckle dragging caveman.

I really dislike this guy. Every article I read makes me cringe, his interviews are terrible... yet everyone seems to celebrate his apparent intelligence. I think he is an ape! Personified by the stupid free kicks he gives away week in week out. When I read people praising him, I feel like Mugatu when everyone else was fawning over Derek Zoolander's multipe 'looks'.

"They're the same face! Doesn't anyone notice this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!"

Well don't read his articles and ignore the threads on it, that way you can stay happily hating him.

While I like the Big Man, I tend to agree with you on the fact that his articles are NOT that great....

Are you 14??

Seriously

Are you?

Such a childish remark 'don't read it if you don't like it blah blah...'

I never said it causes me distress, in which case your stock standard reply may have been applicable.

You're pasting out of the 2005 internet standard response booklet mate, come back when you have something a bit more relevant.

What does being 14 mean... Got a problem with 14 year olds?
No problem with 14 yo's was one myself 44 years ago and remember it vividly. It means getting caught up in childish arguments and tit for tat retaliations that go on forever. Adults walk away from such rubbish because they have more important things to do than try to prove they are internet cred heroes.

It's his way of showing how mature he is...

It is so laughable how many people think that age automatically implies maturity and intelligence. You can pretty much run a line through anyone who uses such statements for either of those qualities.

haha your initial response to my post (omg don't read it then) was about as childish as it gets... or at the very least, fricking dumb.

I love Jols, but I'm with you on those free kicks I often hear myself screaming "Seriously Jols?" and acting like this:

Also agree he tries to make himself sound a little smarter than he actually is... Still I can't not love him :p

Anyhoo on topic, i do find it odd when journo's complain about players giving stock standard answers when they are the first to jump all over anything a player says that's a bit different.

Limit the amount of journos covering the game. They may even build trust with the players
