its not about his injuries and stuff like that because if we didnt pick him up he'd be lucky to go first round
the 2005 draft isnt a very good one but with pick 8 i was expecting better

i agree give him time espacially when you consider how skinny he is.he does have some talent.I know Bents, it made me laugh too. He's been in the system one year and already he's been sold to the glue factory.
I dont have an opinion one way or another, but l do know to at least give the kid as much time as anyone else. No different to Meyer for me... he's in his 3rd year and l reckon he'll be a champion, even if he had another average year in 2007.
Give em time.
WCE desperatley wanted Pendlebury, we rated him 3rd overall. After him, they rated the group pretty even.
Freo wanted JON.
I see some of your are knocking JON's skills, I am suprised... he was an outstanding kick in junior footy. He never found much of the ball, it was always about quality with Jarad.
Why would you feel sorry for someone getting picked up at 10 instead of 8?
I see where you're coming from, you want Richmond to target low-risk players who will be solid contributors to their team.
With GM I think we won't be doing that very often.
To get ahead of the other clubs you need high risk = high reward mentality.
Let's say Hurn becomes no better than say Kane Johnson.
JON could never develop the body for AFL and then be a failure, so we lose a Kane Johnson for nothing.
OR, JON could be the next Adam Goodes.
By taking a risk, if GM is right and it pays off, we have effectively traded a Kane Johnson for an Adam Goodes.
In this day and age I'm glad we are taking a different approach to every other club, we will either come out on top of them all, or we'll fail and be on the bottom. At least if we fail we can have another crack at the best talent around, but this is the method we chose and no matter what happens it WILL take years before our "skinny long term prospects" like JON, Meyer, Tambling and Edwards etc actually do anything.
Are they worse than 4 players who are 'ready made'?
At 23 years old I think this group will be better than the "ready made" alternatives.
yeh i did say he wouldve been lucky to go first round meaning maybe a WA club would get him
but there was no way the dees, dogs and hawks were going to pass up their pickups for jon
this is nothing against the kid i just want rfc to get a solid first round pick and stop looking at potential
i feel sorry for the hard working vic boys who get overlooked for tall pencils from WA and other interstate junior clubs
u know so much about everything there is to know about australias young talent. you even somehow know who should have would have wanted tho have etc
now i ask you 1 question, if you know so much about everyones talents and when and where they should have been picked
why the f dont you work at an afl club as a talent scout and director of draft selectors, why are you not top dog of all at a clubs selection table
you know squat, and have no idea. yours posts are full of dribble and the only person u r trying to convince that u actually know something is urself
sheesh what a joke. Why would you feel sorry for someone getting picked up at 10 instead of 8?

we can all wait for jon and the others to get their bodies right doesnt mean they are suddenly going to turn into inside mids with plenty of hardness

We all said that about Shane Tuck too. If anything Tuck was lighter and rawer than any of our pencils when the Hawks rookied him. It took him a long time to get his body right and learn the game. We have a hard inside midfielder now. No reason at all the JON won't follow the same path. He likes to compete, played as a junior ruckman despite his lack of height, and was good at stoppages in the WAFL colts.
shane tuck never has and never will have great disposal he was always a bang and crash inside mid just didnt have the body to go for it
meyer, casserly, jon etc are all good at skills/run so the body will go with it but its not a major factor
guys like foley and polo are more similar to tuck
im saying it wouldnt hurt to get an extra bigger body or 3 in our midfield, doesnt mean we have to be a slow team but id like a bit of balance instead of looking like a bunch of pencils in the centre
i can wait for some players who need time if i know what they will become but all our kids will be kicking goals of the week and taking 5 bounces while foley and polo will be smashed week in week out unless something happens
so yeh thats what im on about
