There has been talk on this board for about 4 years of the post Brown era and now that it's finally here it doesn't seem real.

Thanks for the memories. You will be missed.

If I don't post in this thread then it didn't happen.

Dang….

Going to miss the big fella aren't we….:(

In a city where our game has oft been maligned by locals who ignorantly dismiss it as soft in comparison to rugby league, these tweets say it all.

Of most of his goals live that I got too see. This is probably the best one after the siren at Qtr time. Sitting on the third level directly behind him in line with the goals(having to lean over the edge cause he was tucked in so tight).

Those talking about straight drop punt instead of the banana. Here is a pure evidence of how good he was at it:

NOTE: 9secs in shows the angle. It is the boundary on someones phone and not the telecast but still a great vid.

As brave as Brown was/is, the amount of courage it would've taken to pull the pin exceeds anything he has done on the field. To say enough is enough at a time when the club is in dispair shows tremendous heart. We all know everything within him would've wanted to keep playing. Nothing but the utmost respect for J. Brown

My lasting memory is his last act on a footie field. Outbodies/outplays his opponent & launches himself at the ball without fear or any thought of personal safety. After the damage he has suffered to stay true to himself, eyes only for the ball. Just like Browny.

We may see a footballer of his ability again, but we will never see a man like that.

Thanx Browny, it has been a pleasure, & a priveledge to share the ride with you, just in some small way.

There was a montage on the show last night.

Yeah aware of that and went searching for it, got leppa but no montage video. Hence the no montage comment and sad face because as someone without foxtel i'd really like to see it.

What a champion not just of the Brisbane Lions but of the AFL? He and Kenny Hunter are the most courageous footballers I have watched.

Have a great life after footy Browny.

Just wanted to come by to pay my respects to the great man. Great likeable character, godlike footballer and will sure be missed running out for the Lions.

I am a bit of a stats person sometimes and I just wanted to see what the numbers show during his peak years. So I thought I'd throw them up here. Peak years might be debatable, they are just the years I personally picked:)

2005-2010 stats
Games:107
Goals: 353.198
Brownlow votes: 82
Averages
Disposals: 16
Marks: 8.4
Goals: 3.3
Behinds: 1.8
Tackles: 1
Frees for: 1.25
Frees against: 1
Brownlow votes: 0.77

They are great stat's for a CHF. You can see how he dragged our average 2006-2010 sides over the line quite a few times from viewing them:p

Sadly his best year has to be that amazing but short 2006 season. I still remember the outcry of Wayne Carey comparisons during those first 10 weeks. Pretty amazing stats for a 195cm, 102kg CHF actually.

2006 Season
Games: 10
Goals: 35.18
Brownlow votes: 13
Averages
Disposals: 19
Marks: 10.3
Goals: 3.5
Behinds: 1.8
Tackles: 1.3
Frees for: 1
Frees against: .4
Brownlow votes: 1.3

All up though he averaged 17.8 games per season during his "peak years", which probably cost him that extra few All Australians and brownlow votes that could have propelled him a lot closer to Carey. Those extra few games certainly would have saved us lions fans from a few shit fights we currently have over how great he was:p

I haven't written anything on Browny since he officially announced his retirement. I guess I am still gathering my thoughts on probably my favourite ever player and the last big link to the Lions golden era.

It was really a perfect farewell press conference yesterday in typical Browny style. Anyway, I am not sure if anyone has seen the following quote (I haven't read the whole thread), but it kind of gave me goose bumps:

I was fortunate enough that I was a Lions supporter as a young fella, as my father Brian played for Fitzroy. My heart bled for the Lions from the very start, so it made it a lot easier to bleed for the cause … It's probably come at a price to my body, but I wouldn't change it for the world.

Also here is a good article from the Warnambool Standard that many probably haven't seen:

I think 2006 was the year he was playing at around 109kg and they slimmed him down to 104 the next year because it was just too much impact on his body running around at that weight.
