I really don't think it matters whether Carey or Brown was the better player. They were both integral parts of phenomenal teams.
I do believe, however, that every coach in the AFL will show their entire squad a replay of the first ten seconds of the grand final. Of Brown charging straight at the ball with half a dozen players charging towards him, not to take possession, or to kick a goal, but just to knock it forward, keep it moving in the right direction, so one of his teammates can get the glory.
Every coach will show that to their players and say "that's how you need to play to win a grand final".
No incident better sums up Brisbane over the last three years.

The games v Port this year ( and last year as well ) during the season were the best contests ( apart from that R22 Western Derby ) and we were anticipating a meet on neutral turf in the GF. That's the real battlefield. When that happens we can compare apples ...

No, just a career of better games than Brown. A career of consistently taking the best defender, and receiving supply from a midfield that doesn't include three Brownlow medallists.
If the only comparison you can have Brown win is one that is impossible for Tredrea to have met, then it shows how little ground any comparison you'll make is based on.

If you were comparing teams, then yes, it would be relevant to talk about grand finals and so forth in a comparison.
When you're comparing individual players, then its entirely unreasonable to compare the sorts of games that the other couldn't possibly have played in, because its the team that needs to get there. If it was a simple as Warren just rocking up on grand final day to get a game, sure, no problem. Its not.
By your logic, until last year Shaun Hart was a better player than Nathan Buckley because he'd been in a grand final and Buckley hadn't. Your sole criterion is absolute rubbish for the comparison of individual players.
I think Brown is a fantastic prospect and already a top class player. But isn't the best key forward in the comp yet - there are at least two who rate ahead of him (Lloyd and Tredrea). Tarrant is also up there with him (on previous seasons, Brown would have it over Tarrant, but Tarrant had one out of the box this year).
On Tredrea... Interesting that in Port's losses to Sydney and Collingwood, Tredrea had games that were at least as good as Brown's on Saturday, in sides that got smashed in the midfield, while he was being double teamed, but everyone said he was way down and beaten. Shows how high we set the standards for Tredrea.
If Brown can get to the stage where we the media says he was quiet and well beaten for a game like he played on Saturday, you know he'll be pretty darn close to the best forward in the comp.

he got 22 possessions in a game like 3 weeks ago AT CENTRE HALF FWD! he didn't in the grand final becos mick had every defender focused on him cos of his brilliance in all our other matches, not to mention he got polaxed in the first 5 minutes.
i agree with posts on that first page, along with vossy he is 1 of the best players to watch, takes the freakiest marks and kicks goals despite his 'wobbly' action which experts dislike.

One of the 3 times all season he got more than 20 touches. Tredrea got 100 more disposals this season. 15 touches a game is not great.

When Chris Grant was 21 he got more disposals and marks than Brown got this year
He also kicked 71 goals and won the best and fairest in a team that played finals

He was pretty good at defending himself against his girlfriend, because she was a pretty frightening person that he needed to punch out!!
I used to work in the same office as her - frequently came in with black eyes and other bruises. So what if he's dead - he was a thug. I hardly think it likely he would be defending himself against my comments even if he was alive.- Banned

Fact is I worked in the same office as his g/f, she came in regularly beaten up and it was well known in the office (and pretty obvious) that he was beating her up.
What could possibly be something "real" you could want to see? There is no physical evidence you tool.
That he's dead is neither here nor there. Even if he was alive he wouldn't be defending himself in this forum, so what's the relevance of him being dead!?!

I don't know if you've noticed that Aussie Rules is a TEAM GAME ? So we DON'T have to rely on so called 'guns' and opposition coaches can't tag everyone. He's part of that mix and he understands that. He's a top bloke !
