Jonathon Brown - why?

no need for him a say go for kerr i think we need him...also out forward line is fine once they get bak from i juries we hav the future of Cloke Ruslind and Reid roaming around will be a strong forwdline...JA will be a backman and i hav an instinctive feelin dawes may be a back aswell...malthouse has said he will play defender this year in the preseason that was before rusling did his shoulder n once rus did that he was moved forward for emergency needs if another falls down which obviously happened...

Just wondering in all this could he (or cousins) be switched onto the veterans list (over 30 or whatever the rule is) or is that a games for current club type thing?
No. The time has to be served at one club. Which is why Brown will remain at the Lions, they can back-end his contracts to the time when only half his salary counts under the cap, effectively meaning the Lions can pay him twice what anyone else can.

There's a fair bit of to-and-fro going on with Brown because he's pushing for five years, and the Lions want to give him three. Eventually they'll settle on four, and all this will blow over.

Getting Brown would absolutely stuff us, so I believe we're just making life difficult for the Lions.

Id take him in a heart beat. Plonk him inside the 50 and let cloke do all the work up the ground.

swap for reid, didak and our second rounder

Cant we afford to not make a play for him? Rusling shows enough to think he could be a good FF but does anyone want to put money on it. Same with Reid and Dawes i like the look of them both but it doesn't mean they will win us a flag. With Brown we know what we are getting and OK our forward line is good at the moment but its not great. Put Brown at FF Cloke at CHF with the small forwards around them sounds pretty good to me. Midfield is our biggest problem at the moment no question and we should be looking to fix that first. if we cant get a Kerr or when we know what pick we will have in the draft we don't think we are going to get a gun midfielder then why not go after Brown. J Brown in our side next year we are a chance for the flag no question about it with the side we have now. Try and fix the midfield but please don't tell me Brown wouldn't be value to us even if we have to give away something good in return. As for the 5 years well its a gamble but one we should be willing to take for a superstar. Its been 18 years and 32 before that why take chances on untried players when a Gun could come to the club.

Brown will be at the BLUES next year,if the rumour mill has any truth to it.
It seems to make sense if pratt can give Brown more security outside his afl career, similar to the judd situation.
Gee if this happens ,the blues could win aflag before we do.
We seem to keep rebuliding and they just go out and buy another flag just like the John Elliot days.
It would not surprise me if this happens because ,Brown has already knocked us back before.
So don't worry too much about Brown, our midfield is the problem.Diadk to Eagles straight swap for Kerr then use opur second round pick to pick up cousins ,keer will feel at home and use our first round draft pick to secure the best possible kid available at that pick be it another midfielder or kpp.

I don't think JB will take us to a premiership.

After watching Saturday night I'm more than convinced we're on the right path through the young kids.

Now we just need to spend our top pick or 2 on the best midfielder available instead of selling off high picks and talented players for a big name.

Give it a couple of year and we'll have a couple of big named players.

They would want our 1st Rounder instead of the 2nd

Noway we need Mids

All about Future if we can get a top 10 Pick for Didak we will use both of our Top 10 Picks on the best available Mids and that is a massive step forward to fixing our Midfield

Get Kerr, Cousins and Brown.

We will be playing for Flags for the next 10 years.

Cousins turns 31 next June and Brown is 27 in October with plenty of miles on the clock. They'd be a short-term fix only.

Trust in Cloke and the young mids you have.

I would love at have a leading strong marking FF who can take over a game but the longer this season goes on I am becoming more certain that JB is not the answer.

My issues are how will his place in the team affect Dewes, and our other young forwards.
How bad are his injuries.
Who else could we get for this amount of money and who we might lose for getting him

I agree. They must continue to play and develop the youth they have out their at the moment in Dawes and Macca

Brown however would play out of the goal square if recruited, Collingwood would be mad to mess with Clokes devlopment at CHF at this stage of his career.

Cousins would give u a few good seasons but not worth giving up a draft pick in Novemeber

Conspiracy theory: Brown knows he doesn't have much left, agrees to a long, lucrative contract with his rival club (that'd be Collingwood) in order to screw them over.

Leigh Matthews, just back from shooting yet another Delfin commercial, sits in front of his fireplace twirling his moustache and laughing maniacally.

(That's the best explanation I've got.)

Why indeed. We have Cloke Dawes Anthony as immediate options, Reid not far behind, and Rusling and Rocca (only three years older than Brown and no worse off injury-wise) not exactly write-offs. And theres Nathan Brown as well who has shown aptitude up forward. And a fleet of small forwards, with or without Didak.

Happy to take a punt on Cousins as long as we take him late in the draft. With Lonie and Holland probably gone he's the ideal short term filler. Similar with Kerr. If we lose Didak, Kerr is the type of quality replacement we need.

But Brown - no thanks, cant see the point. If he wanted to come to Collingwood he should have moved three years ago when he had the chance but chose instead to use us for leverage. He's played us for fools before, so we owe him nil.

That's why I said 10 years and not the next couple!

Trusting the kids, and providing them with superstars to learn from, even if it is only for the next few years.

Cousins - At least 3 years based on his fitness.
Brown - Managed properly, 27 yoa for all of next season - 5 years easily.
Kerr - 7 years based on his fitness.
