The 11 games thing is pretty irrelevant. Rucks are like goalkeepers, it doesn't matter how good you are if there's even one person at your club who's better than you. He plays for the same club as the AA ruckman who has been super fit and durable for most of his career.

He could be another Witts or Nankervis. But he could just as easily be another Brent Renouf. Only time will tell.

Very True. My money is on him becoming another Witts & Nankervis. I doubt whether Brent Renouf would be ever have achieved anything in the VFL.

Gary Sweet played Reserves footy for the Bays. Ironically Sweet's first major TV role was playing a character called 'Magpie' in The Sullivans.
My brother & I had after work drinks with Gary years ago. Not a bad bloke, bought us some beers, had a chat, then a couple of old rich blonde milfs with the fake tan orange skin started moving in on him. We were blocking them from their target so Gary turned to us and said ‘it’s time to **** off boys’, what a lad

Flynn, O'Brien, Briggs, Sam Jacobs, Nankervis, Darcy Cameron - there's examples of rucks who spent the first several years in the system with little to no exposure to AFL football who were able to break into a side and perform to a solid level.

The latter three in particular are guys who struggled for opportunity at their first club only to become more than solid when given opportunity at another club.

Don't know enough about Sweet to comment with authority.
But better age profile than BG.
Less of a hipster doofus, so fits in better.
Less salary to fork out for a ruck.

Would personally target Pistol to return, however the Doofmeister who wanted him gone is still pulling the levers at Port, so zero chance of that happening.

If Sweet does blossom (and we lose Teakle, Hayes and Scooter), we'll have him, Dante, maybe Vigo as well, and a possible #4 tall as long term prospects for our rucks/KPF's for the next ten years.

I suspect Pete had his off field issues but I would be having a dead set go at enticing Peter Ladhams back. He is light years ahead of players like Jordan Sweet. I suspect Pete had his differences with the hierachy at Alberton and instead of working to resolve the issues Ken & Co said we don't need him.
The Swannies on the D and T board weren't very complimentary of Ladhams at all.

Doesn't sound like he has been performing on or off field.

Sam Jacobs is the one I think of with Sweet for some reason.

If we get that kind of output we would be very happy.

Nice to feel wanted but a 26 year old who has amassed 11 games since being picked up at pick#23 in the 2018 Rookie Draft does not exactly fill me with confidence. We would be better off keeping Sam Hayes. Sam has also played 11 games since we signed him in 2017. Jordan Sweet's match day averages are much the same as Sam Hayes' figures.

I am obviously missing something as Jordan Sweet looks like another player for Ken Hinkley's 'won't get a game' list. Are there two Jordan sweets playing AFL?

How does a player with 11 games in five years qualify as a 'gun'.

The thing is with these younger or inexperienced Ruckman is you gotta give them a really good shot at it. Like you gotta play them to find out.

Anything we can discern about Sweet now is almost useless until we play him for a good stretch.

That Bailey Williams looked like an absolute spud for West Coast last year (averaging 16 hitouts, 9 disposals from 17 games), now he averages 28 hitouts, 13 disposals in 23 games this year.

Same with Kieran Briggs, who thought Briggs would be as good as he is?

But is he like an extra midfielder when the ball hits the ground?

Better, he's like an extra ruckman when the ball is in the air.

Gives me Jarrod Witts vibes.

Given limit opportunities after being stuck behind a top ranking ruck at one club. Matures is the reserves and seeks a trade.

Big lump of a lad that can dominate hit outs while still get his 15 odd disposals. If he can have a second half of his career similar to Witts, we will do very well with him.

Yeah came here to say this. There’s a pretty extensive history of #2 rucks getting caught behind an incumbent, moving clubs right as they hit the age when ruckmen develop, and do very well for themselves. Sweet fits the bill exactly.

The no Hipster Doofus club

Hayes, lycett, Teakle and Visentini have all combined for a whopping total of 3 contested marks this year!

max gawn with 48, R.o'Brien low 30s .. hopefully Sweet can help out in this space ..surely

True, but isn't that what we have been doing for years and we finally get a ruckman that shows promise we let him go. The idea is to improve our list with a ready made ruckman not fill the list with another project ruckman. That was the idea behind getting Grundy.

We might strike pay dirt with Jordan Sweet, I hope we do, then again it is highly likely he will go the way of Giles, De Luca, Minson, Frampton, Ladhams and presumably Hayes and Teakle.

As for Briggs and Williams, Kieran Briggs was taken as a second round pick (#34) in the National Draft therefore GWS must have seen something in him. Bailey Williams was a third round pick (#48) in the 2015 National Draft. Jordan Sweet wasn't even picked up in the national Draft. He was the third to last pick taken in the Rookie Draft. You are not comparing apples with apples.

Don't get me wrong I really hope Jordan Sweet works for us but I would not be paying much if anything for him.

Yeah been married a zillion times and hundreds of kids to various spouses. Definitely more the playboy type. I remember him at school.

Lycett moved to us because he wanted to come home. He’s made his sheets and won a flag. I’d say he’s more a chance to be playing for Port Districts with his mates over Norf.

As if he turns down another year on 400-500k. You’re a long time retired

Minson? Surely not 2013 All Australian Ruckman Will Minson?

But no i agree, he'll be probably on next to nothing, and we'll probably give away pick 60 for him. So it's a moneyball kind of move.

If Sweet is able to drop back and help in defence it would make a massive difference.
What we need is a Brogan/Lade combination
