He's exactly the player we need to compliment our younger guys, Caddy and Christensen will be fantastic replacements for our older inside midfielders.

Josh Caddy - 20
Billie Smedts - 20
Mitch Duncan - 21
Allen Christensen - 21
Steven Motlop - 22
Taylor Hunt - 22
Mark Blicavs - 22
Mitch Brown - 22
Selwood and Hawkins - 24

Impressive reading. Consider the other kids who aren't playing as well. In an ideal situation there'd be more of a spread (with more guys between 24-27), but that is very encouraging.

The unfamiliarity cuts both ways. He was ignored a couple of times today when he had got out on his own.
His "corner kick" across the goal line was inventive and very team orientated, my guess is that he'll fit right in soon enough.
It's probably worthwhile remembering that he doesn't turn 21 until another six months.

Still young. Got plenty to learn but developing all the time. Critical goal he kicks and good for confidence when taking those shots.

He's also entitled to punch Motlop in the head at training for ignoring him when he was in the square.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised when I "did the math" so to speak. I mean Chris Scott did tell us he was aiming for a tilt at the 2015 flag... but still very sneaky...o_O

He is impressing so far.

He has not faltered once, his pre-season was brilliant and his endeavour to be a contributor is first class.
Much more to come as he learns and develops, and he's only 20!!

His ceiling in my opinion is about Joel Corey level, which is obviously a win for the club if he gets there. Similar to Smithy in that he is gifted with football-relevant athleticism, plus a great attitude, though lacks a bit of class when it comes to disposal.

disposal and decision making aren't great

looks fairly solid so far and glad he kicked that goal

wouldn't be calling him a 10 year player just yet
I'm with cynical at the moment. For someone who is quite slow his disposal and decision making hasn't looked all that great. Hopefully I am wrong here and with time this will be improve. Have question marks at this stage.

I was gutted when Ablett left us but I suspect we will look back on that decision in years to come and say it was one of the best things to happen to the club. Yes we lost the best player in the league for 4-5 of his best years but it released pressure on our salary cap meaning we could retain the rest of our list, it made us a more even team (no more relying on him to get us over the line) and has given us what look like 2 gun players for 10 years (early call I know but both Caddy and Smedts show exceptional raw material).
Nah, I don't think you could ever say losing the best midfielder of all time in his prime can be a win. Especially given the dud draft picks we got. Smedts and Caddy should be good but they aren't going to replace the brilliance of Ablett.

Through the juniors and at GCS his elite kicking has been a feature, so hopefully it will return once he gets more familiar with the game plan and which of our players is likely to be where.

not quite slow mate ;)
He'd be as quick as Selwood imo, certainly not slow though.

I think his form is no surprise to some of us. I've like him since the day I saw him at KP in the u18's. That there a kid who Id like to see playing at KP for us.

He is still got a fair bit upside. He will be a match result determining player , like Bartel. He will make better choices , he will feel more comfortable within the group. He will get stronger. He will take more on. Yes , still plenty to work on but those who have questioned his place compared to others that have been on our list longer , perhaps can now see he has a little extra to offer.

I could imagine Josh 6 months back , being introduced to the boys and the club. He came to ours in the end , probably hoping it was the right move , be normal to have that twinge of doubt .

I can almost see him thinking -
Geelong are they done , am I going to a club on the slide. I like what I see , I liked what I have seen but is there anything left. Am Im coming to a champion club on the wain? 12 Months ago , I would have been happy at Ess , North are young and on the way up , Geelong can get the deal done but gees I hope its the right club....

Well welcome to the Geelong Football Club Josh. In fact welcome to Geelong Football. Let me introduce you to big games at the G versus our biggest rival , let me introduce to the Geelong way.

So how do you think he feels now? How do you think those two wins go for locking a new guy into a club.
Rivers loved it last week and I bet Hmac is watching on the sidelines as jealous as hell.

Ok that is going to do my head in :D
How many times have we seen the scrimmage. Selwood hasn't got the ball. Selwood dives in to get the ball, dives out of the pack running, and in no time he is nearly 10 metres down the track with opposition players still grappling about. I'm sure it must be baffling for them. ;)

Selwood isn't exactly quick.

guess we will always have different opinions on that one but to me, Selwood is fast, he's not quite as explosive as Ablett was but he's definitely got foot speed and it's actually very deceptive and a massive reason why Geelong fly under the radar as even our own fans don't see it.
I think there are two other midfielders who some don't rate for speed and they are Christensen and Duncan but get those two on the wide open spaces of the MCG or Subiaco and it's quite evident.

Caddy has speed though :thumbsu:
He's just giving mediocre defensive efforts which are showing him up but you'd reckon Scott will be addressing this. It's to be expected though when you come from a team of kids who don't quite have the system the Geelong players are use to.

It depends on what you qualify as fast. I agree, Selwood is definitely not slow. But what is fast? Top 10 quickest players in the comp, top 50, top 200? Have a feeling I have a tighter qualification for fast you do.

top 10 at the club is what Caddy is in my opinion.
The blokes I personally rate as fast are: Selwood, Duncan, Christensen, Motlop, Varcoe, Murdoch, Caddy, Stringer, Hunt & Smedts then you have players who are raw and yet to get a game such as Thurlow, McCarthy, Burbury & Eardley who are also fast.
Blicavs definitely belongs in the fast category too.

The rest of our list is basically in between the fast but not slow categorically.
Slow players would have to be the rucks, for obvious reasons and carrying over 110 kilos each while a few other blokes would be amongst that slow category but excel in other areas so don't need to rely on that speed anyways :thumbsu:

From all pre-season reports Caddy was the fittest player at the club apart from Blicavs who's an endurance freak, so as footballers go over the course of a game he would be quick.
Just silly talk, thoughs' sorts of comments.
