Recommitted Josh Kelly [re-signed]

Right info, wrong conclusion.

We have the picks, cap space and the need for both.

Though Kelly will be in Navy Blue so you are welcome to Martin if tigers let him go

Connors is the one who says he is obsessed with those on his books winning flags, so Josh might not share his "obsession" and may be happy to come home for a huge payday after just one.

If he wants more, why hasn't he re-signed already?
as i said i cauld be wrong but ask any afl footballer actually ask any elite sports person once you have reached the alterment say aflag in afl or olympic gold for example it becomes contages even in my realativly limited sporting carrear the more sucsess igot the more i wanted i know every one is different just my opinion

StKilda is smart enough to not invest that much in 2 players. Your list is getting closer to priming and players like Billings, Bruce, Gresham, McCartin etc will all want their piece of the pie in the coming years.

North have no one to pay at the moment so could probably do it. But I don't see Martin and Kelly wanting to go to the spooners.

I agree, it would be crazy to put so much into two players.

I love Martin but would prefer Kelly at Saints. I think we are pretty good for extractors we need some outside class.

I think this whole line of thinking is just irrational fear of spending large sums of money at once.

2.7mil a year on dusty and kelly represents ~20% of the standard salary cap over the next 6 years.

The saints can spend 105% of the cap for the next 3 years, meaning for half their contracts- dusty and jelly would only be costing us 15% of our cap.

We would have easily been paying riewoldt and say goddard 15%+ of our cap circa 2010... nobody was calling that insane.

Sure we'd be paying 20% for the 3 other non 105% years, but that's the 5% premium you pay for getting star players from other clubs; as opposed to growing your own.

Another day, another set of mutually contradictory Kelly predictions and rumours.

No matter what he does, there will be enough tears to float a battleship.
North fans will definitely be devastated if he (and Martin) rejects their offer. Carlton and Saints fans are pretty happy with their developing lists so will likely move on pretty quickly.

GWS will be pretty cut that a superstar has left but their list is still so strong and they will get a very healthy return for him.

Yes. Connors said on Open Mike last night that he is "obsessed with premierships", so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he's strongly advising Josh to not leave GWS until he's got at least one flag.

If he gets it this year, he's ticked that box.

If he was staying regardless he could just sign now, so I reckon if they win the flag and he hasn't re-signed in the meantime he's gone.
that would then mean getting a 1 or 2 year contract off GWS.
I can't see them offering Kelly that and losing potential long termers in Hopper, Smith, Kennedy to accomodate a player who will just leave next year if a premiership win happens.

Better off trading Kelly now and offering the cash to keep most of their 22 together and getting some huge return they can invest in (i.e. 2x 1st rd picks) to sustain that success.

Some citizen-erased or other on the Jacob Hopper thread just indicated he'd be interested in offering two first round picks - one this year, one next year - for Hopper and Kennedy.

Under a scenario where Kelly accepts a two year deal, you've got Taranto in the twos and can bring in the replacements for Lids and Griffen ... and then collect another pair of firsts for Kelly if he doesn't go 'Actually, I like the Giants enough to stay' the same way Dylan Shiel did.

:)
I'd be happy for us to trade 2x 1sts for either Kelly or Hopper & Kennedy.

GWS have a pretty strong hand here. If Kelly goes, you'll get 2x 1sts.
If he stays and Hopper & Kennedy or Smith go, you'll get 2x 1sts.

Saints are evidently back in with an offer for Martin. This suggests they have swung and missed on plan A, Kelly.
Or we just freed up another $500K+ with Rooey electing to retire and have apparently told Montagna we won't know if we're going to offer him a new contract until October, which would clearly suggest we're waiting to see if we land a Kelly/Dusty type or two.

Well all the reports have been that if he stays it is likely to be for two years, but I've also seen or heard it said that they are also happy to offer him a longer term deal, if he's happy to stay longer term.

Yeah I would love to get Kelly because he's so good and suits our needs so well, but on the other hand, paying a huge chunk of money and also two top 10 picks is an awfully big price to pay, so I would also be very excited to see who we got with those picks if we kept them and who we might be able to get perhaps through FA this year or next, with that million plus dollars.

You could potentially get three others who are very good or better for those trade assets that would be required for one Josh Kelly.
