Looks like he's been given the Michael Walters treatment ala 2012. Work your ass off and gain the respect of your teammates and you might be given a second chance...

Another small window of hope lies in the fact he's still allowed to be selected for Peel. Some solid form there could see him return quicker than expected. Great news :thumbsu:

I'm rapt the resolution has occurred so rapidly.Says to me that everyone was on the same page.I could not see the club imposing such sanctions so quickly without Josh seeing the legitimacy of the club's response and agreeing that the consequences were appropriate and just.
I think $5000 is the maximum fine permitted under the players agreement.
So I'm more of the opinion that rather than a small window of opportunity we've got the doors of communication wide open and have hopefully installed some circuit breaker trigger to prevent future recurrence.
Absobloodylutely rapt I am.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::rainbow::rainbow::rainbow::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

I tink Bonds words : Sustained period of time, means that would be min 6-8 weeks

He said "Until further notice"

"Bond said the club had not put a time frame on when Simpson would be available for senior selection."

The Club has done the right thing and delt with him quickly and fairly .
I'm Glad that he hasn't been shown the door .
Bond and RTB have given him a choice its now up to him to respond on the training track and in games for Peel .
I think he will have to do some community service as well .

Well played fremantle

Whatever happens in the future it will be hard for Simpson to argue he wasn't given adequate opportunities to succeed at the club

Happy to see he's taken his lumps, and issued a statement of contrition:

From AFL.com.au:

"“I have had a lot of time to think about my actions and the consequences this may have had on my career," he said.
"I am motivated to be an AFL player and with the continued support of the football club I will make the most of this opportunity given to me.”
What's NOT great news is hearing that he has been fined twice now in two months for not meeting the club's guidelines - can I therefore assume this is his second strike in effect, and not his first?

In hindsight, if this is Josh's second strike, then the club's behaviour makes a lot more sense in that they made the discipline public, more-so than usual. This could be construed as either the club rattling the sabre at Josh to show him that they are serious, or laying the grounds publicly for him to be cut early for non-performance ...or both.

All fear and cynicism aside though, it's great to hear he has another chance to make good on his promise, the rest is up to him and I wish him the very best of luck. Hopefully this public kick-up-the-bum (along with a strong show of support and encouragement for him fighting his way back at Peel games) is exactly what he needs to get his shit together over the long term.

I really did. You gave me no choice! :D

You can't really blame me with the way it was reported by The Worst.

First they stated that his 'AFL career is likely over'; then made the statement that he failed to attend training on Tuesday, which we then found out later he was never meant to attend anyway.

Normally I don't take anything from the Worst but 720AM jumped on it and played some audio from McPharlin saying that the club was disappointed in him, and made it sound as if it were related to his training non-attendance when he was actually discussing not jumping on the plane.

Clutching at straws here

Second time in 4 months and the first fine was a carton of scotch and dry cans into RBT's Christmas stocking for missing a target by foot playing kick to kick Gekko71 :D

Simpson needs to be put in touch with Ashley Sampi.

He would tell him that you don't know what you had until you lose it !!!!.

You seem to have made 2 mistakes.

The first is reading The West. This is almost inexcusable in itself.

Your second mistake was actually giving credit to what you were reading in the West. This is a serious transgression and I think that as of today, you should relegate yourself to posting only about Peel Thunder until Seppo decides that you are fit to post about our beloved Dockers.

Until then, take this rainbow and think about your actions. :rainbow:

Exactly

I posted earlier that I hoped Simpson doesn't get lost to football the way that Sampi did due to an inability to adjust. From what I understand Ashley has got his life together and is happy now but does regret that he didn't make the most of his opportunities in the AFL

I absolutely love how the club has handled it.

Bond also revealed that Simpson would have to train diligently over a lengthy period before he is considered for senior selection again.
"(Selection) will be determined by his ability to demonstrate the behaviour required of a player at this club for a sustained period of time," Bond said.
"We will continue to provide every resource necessary to ensure that Josh continues to develop both personally and professionally, so he is best placed to meet the challenges he faces in becoming an elite player in the AFL."
A contrite Simpson released a statement through his management group in response to the club sanctions.

It gives us time to simmer him away in the WAFL until he's jumping out of his skin. The next time he comes in he will turn some heads. Hopefully he's ready to go come finals time.

Quite right - it was four months. :thumbsu:

I can't help but wonder where the $5,000 fine ends up going - if every fine for bad discipline ends up in the Xmas party fund, this might explain why attitudes have slipped south for a few players - trying to build up dosh for the end of year piss-up :p

Wonderful news and the best outcome we, (supporters), the club and, most importantly, Josh could have hoped for.

I hope that the nay-sayers who called his career finished, or hanging by a thread, give themselves a series of uppercuts and enjoy their felt hat with salt and pepper.

Maybe THEY need to HTFU and stop being soft?

I'm backing him and the club to sort it out.
Too early to to write him off yet.

Well the balls well and truly in flash's own court now. Hopefully he takes it onboard and listens to the support he's getting and comes back stronger ala Son-son.
