I don't know what people are pissed off about.

I applaud the club for being pro-active and throwing everything at getting the absolute best out of Josh.

Clearly just going to training and playing for Peel isn't working and he needs help to rid himself/solve/deal with some very significant issues in his personal life.

Most clubs would just walk away and say too hard.

I'm rapt that we didn't.
Personally I'm pissed off that we won't get to see him running rings around the opposition in the immediate future.
Agree with what you said in the rest of your post but I think its ok to be disappointed he's not playing footy.

Such a huge cultural difference from where he came from to Perth. Add on the stresses of trying to perform at AFL level as well as being a young dad it was always going to be a struggle. Glad to here Freo haven't abandoned him. Let him settled down in Perth for the rest of the year and get his personal stuff together then come back next year and hit the ground running at Peel.

If only Mayne hadn't been passed fit for the Sydney game.......

I know you are probably being sarcastic but we need to have players behave and act the way we want them to for ten years. If he had played against Sydney there is every chance he would have been dropped at some point in the year and the same thing would have happened.

Had to admit I am bummed by the news :(

you are on the money that the team is taking a long term view with this instead of throwing in a quick fix for it to breakdown somewhere down the road.

Still, this does mean that there is some setback which is never good to hear:(

Yes, well said.

Yep, this goes far deeper than the "missing the plane" incident.

Last chance saloon

Horrid memories of that shithole in South Headland. But yes, if he screws this up he is gone.

The draft is a lottery and the market sets the price.

The truth of the matter is we thought we had paid unders based on his ability to cope with boarding school.

It's a complicated lot he has in life and I hope this helps solidify in his mind whether he is better served playing in the AFL or whether the draw of his family/country is too great.

I hope it's the former but respect it if it's the latter.

Well done to the club for its handling of the situation.

I wonder where he will be located for this program. Will he remain in the metro area, or will he return home? I imagine a combination of both. Whilst I won't pretend to be any kind of an expert on his affairs, it must be so tough to feel that you are living such a dual existence. Ultimately, any successful program will in a way need to provide him with the resiliency required to thrive in two different - and sometimes conflicting - realities. And that is just very superficially considering cultural differences, without digging in to the idiosyncratic facets of Josh's personal life.

In any case, if it does turn out that he doesn't make it - and I hope this is not the case - it will not be due to the club's processes or lack thereof. I think he is very lucky that it is Freo that he is at. I became an even more passionate supporter when hearing Lyon openly discuss the cultural difficulties encountered by players who are drafted from Aboriginal communities.

Is there any case of this happening anywhere that has resulted in the player coming back and having a successful afl career.

Close to writing him off :(

Would like a straw to clutch at.

In Ross we trust. (I could not find a straw, but have this instead, because ours is the best) :clubs:

Not to my knowledge. However this is new territory. The club has intervened before the player had passed the point of no return.

I am extremely hopeful.

And WAnchor , I doubt very, very much whether he will venture back to Yalgoo itself as part of this, (it is toxic for him), however I am in little doubt that a spell in the Murchison/Gascoyne somewhere, with some respected old blackfellas, is very much on the cards.

well not as such as what Simpson has but he was sent away to build his fitness back up because he was (fat) but still it did him wonders.

A totally different set of circumstances and it trivialises what Josh is doing and going through.

If you have no f***ing idea what you are talking about, it is best to shut up.

This is a really important issue for a lot of us.

Bushie you're wrong mate, it's good for Bone to talk about it and we shouldn't throw rocks because his view is also the media's view and probably 90% of the population.

Bone is voicing an opinion and it is better to address it in a manner that he'll listen and consider.
