I’m a big admirer of this kid. Reads the footy in contested situations and uses it well with hands. I think during the finals he may have an impact.

Oh god you're just inviting Blaze to hate on the kid further :D

If anyone's read my comments on him they'll realise I'm an unabashed fan, however after tomorrow's VFL game I'd prefer we placed him in cotton wool for the pre-season because he will run around again in 2013.

The only rider on that is if we defeat the Eagles this week (which is extremely unlikely IMO). That would leave us as a certain top 4 finisher and give us a chance to rest Pendles and Beams in the last round. He'd be out the next week, however just giving him the taste may be what he needs to set himself for a big pre-season.

FWIW the way he's gone about things in the two's since returning has been nothing short of brilliant. To improve each week across the last 6-8 weeks at the age of 21, on the back of no pre-season and almost a full year out with injury. It just makes you wonder what he could do in 2013 with a clear run at it....

All ill say is macaffer is a far better chance to get the call up these finals series than JT.. and macaffers chances arnt great

I really hope to see this kid in action, because the only time I've seen him was at Balwyn Maccas 2 years ago.

I know he must have talent because Buckley mentions him a fair bit and seems to REALLY be persisting. I know Nathan has a strong focus on skills, and I can see this kid being a big part of that along with Fasolo, Elliott and Williams in the future.

But of that group, only Fasolo has very good skills or better. Elliot and Thomas' skills are in the range from okay to good, and Williams' skills are below that.

I hope we get to see Thomas this year though, but think it will be next year in the NAB cup...

As much as I doubt it will happen, there is a long and proud tradition of Collingwood players being brought in for their first career game in a final...including a bloke who ended up being a Brownlow medallist. Would love to see it happen for that reason alone, but realistically injuries would be the only reason for it and I'm not hoping for that.

The good news is that hes done enough to stay on the list. Even if he hadnt done enough to stay on the list, they probably would have kept him anyway, but his VFL form should make it a certainty

Interesting emergency selection though. It will be interesting to see who they take over to Perth.

Maybe but there always three emergencies named. I would have thought they would fly Marty over and he'd sit the week out, he's match fit anyway. Theres only one VFL game left in the season so Ugle and Thomas would be better served getting another full game under their belts. If on the outside chance they are required in Sep they may as well be as match fit as possible.

You are most likely correct. If they were to take JT over a debut could be on the cards.

Macaffer is not even in the VFL team for Saturday - looks like his season is over.

Last thing we need is another 1st game player. Seedsman and Sinclair in the team is more than enough.

Get the experienced players back in ASAP which we have done to a certain degree this week.

JT might get a game next weekend if we decide to rest a few against the woeful Bombers, but I doubt he'll even be part of the 28-30 man finals training squad.

The good news is that the club still rates him highly, and he is likely to retain his spot on the list.

21,000 posts!!! And, yeah, Thomas probably will hold his spot now. Good luck to him.

Every week you guys talk about Josh, if he hasn't been given an AFL game by now, hes not going to get one in an cut throat finals environment. He will be given a game when ready, and clearly the coaches do not think he is ready, and it will not be this year. Players like Seedsman, Elliot, even Mooney are more likely to be given a chance in finals than he is due to the fact they have been exposed to an actual AFL game.

Yeah yeah yeah, wild speculation is free

And fun

I love this kid but I highly doubt he will break into the side this finals series unless injuries occur.

I would have been much more happier though had he been given a chance to debut over at Subi this weekend. At least he is an emergency which shows he has finally come through to at least be very close to a seniors berth.

I agree.. the hype on this kid is heckin'g ridiculous u'd think he was the next scott pendlebury. Theres going to be a lot of disappointment if he actually gets AFL games (mainly due to BF hype)

Never heard such hype for a kid before thats never played a game

Not since Jarrod Witts, anyway!

i was gonna say witts beats him hands down in that regard, cos he's already had media exposure too.

the list is long at collingwood of players getting bigger wraps before touching a ball in anger.

very very long. o_O
